President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania receives the Honorary Citizen of Bucharest title. Dragnea to Vainer: Thank you for helping me understand importance of fight against intolerance, racism anti-Semitism

Aurel Vainer, the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania was awarded on Wednesday with the Honorary Citizen of Bucharest title. “Mr. Vainer is one of the most important promoters of the inter-confessional dialogue ,” the General mayor of Bucharest, Gabriela Firea said during the ceremony. Present at the event, speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber Liviu Dragnea stated that Aurel Vainer, and his colleagues taught him how important the fight against intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism and social hate is.  “You and your colleagues helped me to know the history of the Jewish people and, through it, an important part of the Romanian history. You helped me to understand how vital the fight against corruption is, the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and even social hate,” Liviu Dragnea stated.

Moreover, Dragnea specified that he appreciates Aurel Vainer very much.

He also talked about “a black period” of Bucharest, where Jewish people had to suffer.

Moreover, the Speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber said that period needs to be discussed and the next generations need to know about these things.

The Speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber also added that the activity in Parliament of Aurel Vainer was “extremely important”. “It is truly a loss for the Parliament, the fact that you are not here anymore and you have a more free life to enjoy now. Although your successor, Mr. Silviu Vexler truly does you honour,” said Dragnea.
