Calin Popescu Tariceanu: The only liberal thing that remained in PNL is the name. It is a sort of “housemaid” of the deep state

Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated on Saturday at Sinaia that the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) is the only liberal party, while the only liberal thing that remained in PNL is the name, but it is actually a “housemaid” of the parallel state.

The ALDE leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated that his party is the only really liberal party.

“From this moment, we must make a clear distinction between what liberal values mean and the names of the parties. Because PNL, even if its name remained a liberal party’s name, looks to me – and I am sorry for using such a phrase – a sort of housemaid of the deep state. And this actually brings its support that has reached a critical level of 21 percent, I think” stated Tariceanu, quoted by Mediafax.

On Saturday, at Sinaia, Calin Popescu Tariceanu attended the Winter School of ALDE youths.

“The Coalition’s meeting will debate on establishing the inquiry committee on SPP”

Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated on Saturday that a discussion can be held on establishing the inquiry committee on SPP’s activity and this subject will be decided in the next meeting of the Coalition.

“I want to make a clear distinction of things. As for the Service’s usefulness, I never questioned this, but given the various information revealed in the public space, related to a possible interference of the Service in politics, of course such an issue must be analyzed, if you wish, because it is unacceptable. For this reason, we can consider to establish a parliamentary inquiry committee, we didn’t do it, but in the first meeting of the Coalition, probably we’ll discuss it and decide, if this issue will be raised. I am open to any discussion. I don’t have preconceived ideas” Tariceanu stated.

Asked about how he feels without SPP’s protection, the Senate’s Speaker mentioned that he lived without this protection most of his life.

“I confirmed the invitation of the SRI Committee. I have to go there, I didn’t even think that I could do otherwise”

Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu also stated on Saturday that he was invited by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Control of the Activity of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), PSD Senator Claudiu Manda, to come in front of the committee, and he will go there, mentioning that he didn’t even think not to go.

“I received an invitation from Claudiu Manda and I confirmed it. If I pretend that everyone has to come in front of the inquiry committees, I also have to go there, I didn’t even think that I could do otherwise” Tariceanu stated at the TLDE Winter Congress.

The Chairman of the Committee for the Control of SRI, Claudiu Manda, stated on January 31 that Liviu Dragnea will definitely be heard by the Committee and the hearing date will be established at the first meeting. Manda added that General Coldea, George Maior, the PMP leader Traian Basescu and the Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu will also be invited to come in front of the Committee. Liviu Dragnea said in his turn that he is tired of inviting himself to the Committee.

“He will definitely be invited to the Committee for the Control of SRI. (…) There are four persons about whom I publicly said at the end of the parliamentary session that we intend to invite, namely General Coldea, George Maior, Traian Basescu and Calin Popescu Tariceanu, and probably Mr. Dragnea will be invited in the next phase” Claudiu Mandea stated.

“I’m not comfortable with the tax exemption of the IT sector. There are also other valuable categories, and they don’t have the same benefits”

Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated on Saturday that the Government must find solutions to help the IT specialists or people with disabilities. He said that he is not “comfortable” with the tax exemption of the IT employees, mentioning that “there are also other valuable categories, and they don’t have the same benefits”.

“The Government must find a fully legal and constitutional solution, in order not to allow negative corrections occur in the fields you mentioned, the IT field or people with disabilities. They must find a solution, and the Justice Ministry can issue these positive opinions. The will definitely discuss in order to find a solution. It was an emergency solution, this is why it was an Emergency Ordinance, because it has to remedy this situation. I’m not comfortable with the tax exemption for the IT sector” Tariceanu stated.

He said that IT specialists must be kept in the country, since they are a valuable work force, but “there are also other valuable categories, and they don’t have the same benefits”.

“We want to keep the IT specialists in Romania, we don’t want this valuable work force emigrate. As a liberal, I believe in incentives, and I think what is happening is a distortion in the market. There are also other valuable categories, and they don’t have the same benefits. It doesn’t mean that I don’t value this sector, but it seems to me unfair towards other sectors” he also said.

On Thursday, the Government adopted a GEO to correct the Tax Code, so that the part-time employees will pay tax according to their income, and the difference will be paid by the employer. The employees who were tax exempted until now, such as the employees in the IT and research fields, will continue to be tax exempted, provided that the employer will not diminish the total of its personnel expenses compared to the previous month.

“Until the final conviction, Darius Valcov has the same rights as any other citizen”

The ALDE leader said on Saturday that until the final conviction, PM Viorica Dancila’s State Counselor Darius Valcov, who was sentenced on Thursday to eight years in prison by the Supreme Court, has “the same rights as any other citizen”.

“Until the final conviction, Mr. Valcov has the same rights as any other citizen”, Tariceanu stated.

Asked if he should be dismissed, the ALDE leader stated: “This concerns him and the PM, and they have to decide”.

The former mayor of Slatina, Darius Valcov, currently working in the PM’s team, was sentenced on Thursday by the Supreme Court to eight years in prison in the case in which he is accused of influence peddling, money laundering and financial operations or trade deeds that are incompatible to the positions held, after he allegedly asked a construction company to pay hum 20% of the value of certain public contracts, when he was a mayor. The Government’s spokesman Nelu Barbu was asked on Thursday by the journalists, in the briefing at the end of the Government’s meeting, about Darius Valcov’s situation, and he answered that he doesn’t know anything and he is not empowered to say anything about it.
