Mayor of Iasi, Mihai Chirica, was excluded from PSD . Chirica says that the decision is abusive *The PSD Iasi leader: The decision is final, it doesn’t need to be validated by CEx

Iasi County Organization of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) decided on Friday, in the County Standing Bureau (BPJ) to exclude the Mayor of Iasi Mihai Chirica from the party. The meeting of the BPJ of PSD Iasi was held at a downtown hotel; Mayor Mihai Chirica, whom the Ethic Committee proposed last week to be excluded from PSD for the repeated attacks against the party’s leadership, was also invited to attend the meeting.

After an almost 3-hour meeting, BPJ of PSD Iasi decided to exclude PSD Mayor Mihai Chirica, the Iasi Vice Mayor Gabriel Harabagiu and the former MP Sorin Iacoban from the party. 18 of 21 members of BPJ voted for the exclusion.

Before the BPJ voting, Mayor Chirica and the other two members of the branch were invited to leave the room, so the verdict was given in their absence.

When exiting the room, Mihai Chirica said that he called for unity and that he came to the meeting with the intention to sew the existing fracture within the organization.

“I presented my point of view and I stated that we wish to rebuild the party’s unity. I came with the intention to sew the fracture within the party, not to enlarge it more. They copied a solution from the center, the order to exclude me probably came from there. I’m not afraid of this, it doesn’t change my social democrat view” Mayor Mihai Chirica stated.

The PBJ meeting was initially scheduled to be held on Thursday, but it was postponed at the last moment. Sources within PSD Iasi said, on the one hand, that not all the members of the Standing Bureau were in the city on that day, but on the other hand, information came out that Chirica’s supporters were planning to organize an action to support the Mayor of Iasi right in front of the building where the meeting was scheduled to be held.

Mihai Chirica, after the PSD Iasi decision to exclude him from the party: It is abusive and I will challenge it

Mayor Mihai Chirica stated that the PSD’s decision to exclude him from the party is abusive, arguing that he can only be excluded from the party by the municipal organization, whose member he is, and not by the county organization. He mentioned that he will challenge the decision excluding him from PSD inside the party, since the party’s statute was violated, but he also takes into account to challenge it in front of the court.

“It’s a political abuse, I can be excluded only by the municipal organization, whose member I am. But they saw that the municipal organization supports me. I am waiting for the official notice regarding the BPJ decision, and I will challenge it, maybe even in front of the court” Mihai Chirica stated for News.ro.

The mayor claimed that PSD Iasi is fragmented, and “the situation is hilarious”, and his exclusion from PSD is an exercise in favor of Liviu Dragnea.

He also said he has the right to speak, regardless of whether his statements are convenient or not for the party’s leaders.

“If the party leader sends you in abyss, you cannot go there. For Dragnea, Iasi is only a mass of manoeuver. There is no democracy inside the party, and this is also reflected inside the branches. I think they didn’t calculate their loss in Iasi by excluding me. If I will be excluded in the end, then I will be a mayor without a contract, but a social democrat mayor. But I am still in PSD, they don’t know what they’re saying. Only the base organization decides, namely the municipal branch, not the county branch” Mihai Chirica added.

PSD Iasi leader states Mihai Chirica’s exclusion is final and a decision of the County Executive Committee is not needed

The Chairman of the PSD Iasi county branch Maricel Popa stated that the County Standing Bureau (BPJ) decision to exclude Mihai Chirica from the party is final and a similar decision of the County Executive Committee is not needed.

Maricel Popa stated on Friday, at the end of the meeting of BPJ of PSD Iasi, that Mayor Mihai Chirica, Vice Mayor Gabriel Harabagiu and the former MP Sorin Iacoban are excluded from the party and the decision is final.

He mentioned that, according to the statute, the vote of the PSD Iasi County Executive Committee is not needed, as certain representatives of the branch initially stated.

“According to the Statute, the three members are excluded today (on Friday – e.n.). No other meeting of the Executive Committee is needed. They have the right to challenge the decision at Bucharest, at the National Committee of Ethics, Integrity and Arbitration. But until a possible complaint will be solved, the sanctioning decision will fully produce consequences” stated the PSD Iasi leader Maricel Popa.

As for Mihai Chirica’s statement according to which the only one that can exclude him from the party is the municipal organization, Maricel Popa said: “I advise him to read the Statute, I don’t think he did it”.

The PSD Iasi Chairman stated that Mihai Chirica was accused of publicly criticizing the party instead of doing it according to the Statute, inside the leading bodies.

“These statements cannot be made on a street corner or in a bar” Maricel Popa said.

At the same time, the PSD Iasi leader rejected the version of any interference from the center in the decision to exclude Mayor Mihai Chirica from the Party.

PSD Spokesman on Chirica’s exclusion from the party: His disappearance from the social democrat political space is not a loss at all

PSD Spokesman Adrian Dobre stated on Friday, in a phone intervention at Digi24, that the exclusion of the Mayor of Iasi Mihai Chirica from the party “is not a loss at all, in any way”, also saying that he attacked PSD by a “sufficiently poor and despicable” manner.

“He contributed to his personal development or to reaching an important position, and after that he publicly attacked this party by a sufficiently poor, many times despicable manner. I don’t think such a person can be a loss for any party, even less for PSD” Adrian Dobre stated.

He also says that if Mihai Chirica wants “to prove his capacity”, he can candidate in the next elections by representing another party, since he doesn’t have anything to do with PSD anymore.

“Mr Chirica’s disappearance from the social democrat political space is not a loss at all. Mr. Chirica, if he wants to prove his capacity, can candidate in elections by himself or representing another party, and we’ll see how people will vote (…) His exclusion only confirms the distance that automatically appeared between Mr. Chirica and PSD” he added.

Dobre also said that PSD’s values are not the same with the ones belonging to the Mayor of Iasi.

“The values he shares and the values that we, all others share, and I am talking about common sense, loyalty, discipline, harmony, discussing inside the party, opinions that must be expressed by a collegial and civilized manner, all these things separate us now” stated the PSD Spokesman.

MEP Catalin Ivan: PSD is no longer PSD, it is only Dragnea’s party; PSD will no longer be able to win the Iasi Municipality for years

PSD MEP Catalin Ivan appreciates that without Mihai Chirica, PSD is no longer PSD, but only Dragnea’s party, claiming that the decision of the Iasi branch to exclude Chirica from the party was ordered by Dragnea.

Catalin Ivan, who is a PSD member in the Dobrovat communal organization, Iasi County, stated on Friday, after the decision excluding Mayor Mihai Chirica from the party, that PSD will suffer in Iasi, since it will no longer own the mayoral position.

“It’s a great loss. I now the typology of the Iasi voters, I know the local realities, and PSD will no longer be able to win the municipality for years, from now on. It will be very difficult for PSD to maintain itself at a high level without having the municipality. PSD is no longer PSD, it’s only Dragnea’s party” Catalin Ivan stated.

He also said that before the meeting of the BPJ of PSD Iasi in which it was decided to exclude Chirica, some colleagues in the Iasi organization told him that Chirica’s “removal” was ordered by Dragnea.

“Some colleagues told me they don’t have other option, this is Dragnea’s order. The party is not important anymore, the only thing that matters is Dragnea and the corrupt people around him. This is not the PSD that I joined. Now, Dragnea’s craving was satisfied” Catalin Ivan said.

The PSD MEP believes that Mihai Chirica will handle the mayoral job without PSD’s support, too, but he expects that the party will pressure the local social democrat councilors, so that the mayor will not have majority anymore.

“It is a total insanity what happens in Iasi. Dragnea succeeds to induce fear, since he can exclude anybody. The problem is not that Chirica is outside PSD, but the party isn’t PSD anymore” MEP Catalin Ivan stated.

Ponta: Dragnea, like any PD member from Basescu’s School, cleans the party according to the principle “no PSD member should remain in PSD”!

The former PSD leader Victor Ponta commented in a Facebook post the exclusion of the Mayor of Iasi Mihai Chirica from the party, saying that he was excluded because he supported the Tudose Government, just as he was excluded for supporting the Grindeanu Government, and he concluded that Dragnea, “like any PD member from Basescu’s School”, cleans the party according to the principle “no PSD member should remain in PSD”.

“I was excluded by Dragnea from the Party because I supported the PSD Government led by Grindeanu/ Mihai Chirica was excluded by Dragnea from the Party because he supported the PSD Government led by Tudose! Dragnea, like any PD member from Basescu’s School, cleans the Party according to the principle “no PSD member should remain in PSD”! It already breaches any admissible limit of rationality and common sense!” Ponta wrote.

He appreciates that the exclusion of the Mayor of Iasi from PSD is one more slap given by “Dragnea Team” to the voters and to the Party’s image.

“Dragnea loses Iasi (the capital of Moldavia”), he humiliates the voters in that region, he shows he removes any voice that doesn’t totally obey to him by an unscrupulous manner, he compromises PSD’s chances to ever win this city again” Ponta claims, expressing his belief that Mihai Chirica will continue to prove he is a good mayor for Iasi, and he will be reelected in 2020, exactly because “he didn’t compromise himself as a bit player in the ‘Teleorman production’ bad movies”.
