Health Minister Sorina Pintea announced on Tuesday that the flu death toll reached 27 in Romania, but there is no talk yet of a flu epidemic in the country.
“We started the warnings about this situation two weeks ago. I have been informed that at this point there is the 27th death. I asked for some reports on the vaccine stocks in the country; they are on my desk at this moment. I will release them this afternoon. We cannot talk about an epidemic yet, but I think the population is not interested in words (…) but in the current situation right now,” Pintea said.
She recommended that hygiene measures and flu vaccination be respected.
“This flu season is likely to extend into April,” said Pintea.
Pintea on discussions with unionists: We understand what is happening in the system, we are open to dialogue
The Minister of Healthcare, Sorina Pintea, on Tuesday stated, after discussions with representatives of the trade unions, that negotiations continue on the regulation of incentives, with very good premises and teams from the Ministry currently working on simulations and graphs.
“We continued the negotiations with respect to the regulation of incentives. We have just reached the technical discussions level for now, but the Ministry of Healthcare has already said that we are open for dialogue, for we understand what is happening in the healthcare system right now. Yet, premises are very good and my colleagues from the trade unions can confirm that too. We will continue on the same path. We are doing well for now. (…) We are working with simulations, graphs,” stated the Minister.
Sorina Pintea announced that she will also discuss with the unionists from the Ambulance system.
Asked how she intends to solve the issue of the deficit recorded in the personnel of hospitals, considering that the current rule is to hire just one person to replace two who left, Pintea responded: “This provision is applied to units under the subordination of the Ministry of Healthcare. For the units under the subordination of local authorities this provision is not applicable. In what the Ministry of Healthcare is concerned, as the case may be, we will make a memorandum to unblock those positions. We have already communicated that into the territory.”
