Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) President Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated on Wednesday that there is a “ruling through criminal dossiers,” claiming that the DNA has become a political instrument. Tariceanu added that there must be an institution that fights corruption, but if that institution is corrupt in its own turn then justice no longer exists.
“There are extremely grave things. We are witnessing ruling through criminal dossiers. Namely, dossiers are made, those who are the object of these dossiers move into the category of lawbreakers, and we know what follows: the President labels them, the public opinion looks [at them] with maybe justified doubts and they are eliminated from public life. It’s a political instrument. The prosecutors, the DNA, this is what it has become. I’m saying it with regret,” Tariceanu stated.
He said he does not dispute the fact that there must be an institution that fights corruption, but when that institution is corrupt in its turn then justice no longer exists.
“Nobody disputes that a phenomenon such as corruption must be fought, nobody disputes that there must be a structure that fights corruption, but if the institution is corrupt everything falls apart and we are left with nothing, no credibility and no justice either,” the ALDE President added.
Asked how the problems could be solved, Tariceanu stated that there is some backsliding in the judicial system that falls under Parliament’s prerogatives and an attempt was made to correct it by modifying the judicial laws, however other issues have to do with the CSM.
“The backsliding… of course there are certain deficiencies that fall under Parliament’s prerogatives and we tried to correct some things by modifying the judicial laws. I don’t believe that represents the solution to the problems. A part of the problems we see in the public space fall under the CSM’s prerogatives. I see there is now concern at the level of the CSM and we are waiting to see what measures will be taken. Many of them do not depend on us but on the CSM,” the ALDE President added.
Former PSD MP Vlad Cosma claims that DNA Ploiesti leadership asked him to invent evidence for a case related to Sebastian Ghita and Victor Ponta. DNA rejects the accusation and reveals the transcript of some recordings containing attempts to compromise prosecutors.Head of DNA Ploiesti: I never falsified evidence. It’s Vlad Cosma’s spin, he hopes to get away. Just today I asked the JI to carry out verifications, we won’t give in to pressures
