DefMin Fifor, Lockheed Martin president Marillyn Hewson in Munich talk about military cooperation

The National Defence Minister Mihai Fifor on Saturday in Munich has met with the president of the US Lockheed Martin company, Marillyn Hewson. The two discussed about the military cooperation,Fifor reiterating the importance to developing cooperation with the Romanian defence industry companies, according to a release sent to AGERPRES.

The talks between Mihai Fifor and Marillyn Hewson were focused on the military cooperation, considering that the Defence Ministry is to develop a major endowment programme with the HIMARS.

“To Romania, the completion of the indirect fire support capability is an essential security interest and contributes significantly to both the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership with the US and to the fulfillment of the commitments taken by Romania within the NATO,” Mihai Fifor said during his meeting with Marillyn Hewson, says the release.

On Saturday too minister Fifor participated in a working lunch traditionally hosted by the Cohen Group, also attended by the US counterpart, James Mattis, general Curtis Scaparrotti, the SACEUR commander, other defence ministers of the EU and NATO member states, as well as American military and civil leaders and members of the US Congress.

During the meeting, “deep talks regarding the European security and the agenda of the future NATO summit due in Brussels this July, were approached,” the source says.
