Carrefour launches Gurmandio, first food order app developed by a retailer in Romania

The application offers users a great variety of products, from both the gastronomy section of Carrefour and from local restaurants, free delivery, and multiple payment options (cash, card or food stamps).

Carrefour Romania, a leader in innovation and technology in retail, has launched Gurmandio, the first mobile app which gives users the possibility to order their favourite products easily and rapidly in the largest cities of Moldavia – such as Iasi, Suceava, Botosani, Piatra-Neamt, Galati – and in Targu Jiu. The app currently lists the gastronomy sections of the Carrefour hypermarkets located in those cities – featuring fresh and healthy offers prepared daily by the retailer’s specialists, in line with traditional Romanian and international recipes – alongside some of the most important local restaurants. In the upcoming period, the offer will include new options. Gurmandio is available in App Store, Google Play and on www.gurmandio.ro.

The first of its kind developed by a food retailer in Romania, Gurmandio is available in Iasi, Suceava, Botosani, Piatra-Neamt, Galati and Targu Jiu. The app offers users unlimited access to a wide variety of local restaurants, free and fast delivery, but also the possibility to pay the products with cash, on delivery, with the card or with food stamps, the latter being usable only on orders from the gastronomy section of Carrefour hypermarkets.

“Innovation is the key word when we are developing products and services that improve and enrich our clients’ shopping experience. We are using the advantages of the new technologies to increase accessibility and the consumers’ level of comfort, and Gurmandio is an important step in this direction. It’s the first application of this type developed by a retailer, but also the most modern, simplest and fastest way through which users in the large cities of Moldavia and in Targu Jiu can order food, at home or at the office. Likewise, Gurmandio contributes to the development of local communities through the very fact that it brings the end clients closer to local businesses. Clients rapidly benefit from the products desired, and restaurant owners benefit from significant visibility,” Carrefour Romania Marketing, Digitalisation and IT Director Catalin Samara said.

The Gurmandio app is available in App Store and Google Play, but also on www.gurmandio.ro, and is customised based on the user’s city, listing the restaurants in the area.

The advantages and options of Gurmandio include:

  • Large variety of products;
  • Free delivery;
  • Multiple payment options – cash, card, meal tickets;
  • Easy to use;
  • Option to memorise and repeat orders;
  • Favourite orders;
  • Log-in via Facebook or Google account;
  • Possibility to track the order in real time;

The launch of Gurmandio consolidates Carrefour Romania’s position as leader in innovation and technology in retail, and joins the other business lines – online and offline – that improve the users’ experience and support the communities in which the retailer is active.
