President Klaus Iohannis signed on Friday the decrees awarding several personalities from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende included, the Presidential Administration announced in a release.
The President awarded Jan Peter Balkenende the National Order of the ‘Star of Romania’ in the rank of Grand Cross in sign of high appreciation for the support offered to Romania in the time he served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands with the completion of EU accession negotiations and the support for the development of relations between the two countries on multiple levels.
Wim van Eekelen was awarded the National Order of the ‘Star of Romania’ in the rank of Commander in recognition of his efforts to support Romania’s NATO and EU accession in the time he filled various dignities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Western European Union (WEU), and for the steady promotion of Romanian-Dutch ties, particularly by stimulating the exchange of experience between the youth of both countries.
The head of the state bestowed the National Order “Faithful Service” in the rank of Knight on Dr. Ioan Dura, the Protopope of the Netherlands and the Flemish Region, in sign of high appreciation of the steady support offered to the Romanian community of the Netherlands for the preservation of Romanian spirituality.
In appreciation of his contribution to the development of bilateral economic and commercial relations between Romania and the Netherlands, Ben Jager, Romania’s Honorary Consul-general to the Kingdom of the Netherlands is awarded the National Order “For Merit” in the rank of Officer.
In sign of appreciation for the promotion of Romanian musical creation on various European stages and particularly in the Netherlands, Klaus Iohannis awarded the “Cultural Merit” Order in the rank of Grand Officer, Category F – “Promotion of Culture” to conductor and pianist Raymond Janssen.
As a recognition of his literary talent and for his contribution to the promotion of Romanian literature in the Dutch cultural space, President Iohannis awarded the ‘Cultural Merit’ Order in the rank of Grand Officer, Category F – “Promotion of Culture” to writer and translator Jan Willem Bos.
Chairman of the NetSib Foundation Jan Achtereekte is decorated with the ‘Cultural Merit’ Order in the rank of Commander, Category F – “Promotion of Culture” in appreciation of his contribution to the development of the Romanian-Dutch educational and cultural ties.
President Iohannis also awarded the ‘Sanitary Merit’ Order in the rank of Commander to Dr. Kees van der Vlies from the Maasstad Hospital in Rotterdam, in sign of gratitude for the care and support provided to Romanian patients and their families during the hospitalization and ambulatory treatment.
The awards were made at the proposal of Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu.
