Former Romania’s president Traian Basescu, a People’s Movement Party (PMP) senator told Sunday night to a broadcast at private B1 TV that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea should be “on high alert” by the votes collected on Saturday at the party’s Congress by Ecaterina Andronescu and Nicolae Banicioiu, because the said votes show the existence of “an exploding vein”.
The PMP senator added that Liviu Dragnea is not going to remain “in this job” by the general election in 2019 and that the latter has backed the election of Premier Viorica Dancila as PSD’s executive president to “transfer” to her the political responsibility of the governing.
“I don’t believe that in the atmosphere he has created one can resist until the November 2019 election. There is one year and a half to go and governance is getting harder. (…) It is not by chance that he came with the idea for the Premier to become executive president, because now he has given Mrs. Dancila a major political load in the party, she is No. 2 so she enforces the party’s policies. (…) He created the political conditions for her to be the responsible No. 1,” Traian Basescu stressed.
The former president believes that the votes for Ecaterina Andronescu and Nicolae Banicioiu show that “there is a trend” who voted “against” the recommendation of president Liviu Dragnea and that this is the “vein that will at a certain point explode.” Traian Basescu qualified as “lying” the speech delivered by the PSD leader, Liviu Dragnea, at the party’s congress.
“If I were Dragnea I’d be on high alert because of the 833 [PSD members, ed. n.] who voted against Mrs. Dancila. (…) It doesn’t look good for Dragnea. If I were him, I’d be on maximum alert with 833 votes against,” the PMP president Traian Basescu concluded.
