Public Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici stated on Thursday that the Government will make a decision so that the persons who donated money within the campaign regarding the purchase of the “Wisdom of Earth” artwork can recover their money.

“We, as the Government, must first and foremost watch the taxpayer’s interest. (…) In respect to this punctual topic, we must talk at the Gov’t level, with all the colleagues, with the Culture Minister, at the level of the governmental team and come up with a decision so that people can recover the amounts paid for this goal,” Teodorovici stated at the Victoria Governmental Palace.

He was asked how is the situation regarding the people who donated money in the campaign for the acquisition of the “Wisdom of Earth” sculpture, taking into account that a draft resolution is underway regarding the reimbursement of these funds and Culture Minister George Ivascu requested the approval of a mission of the Prime Minister Control Body in order to check the ministry activity in respect to the “Wisdom of Earth” artwork.

In his turn, Spokesperson of the Gov’t Nelu Barbu stated that the Executive will come with a clear procedure in this case.

“Romania’s Gov’t knows very well what is happening with the persons who contributed for the respective project and they must get their money back. They cannot be reused, we await all the necessary approvals, to come with this clear procedure so that the people who have to recover money, can recover them,” Nelu Barbu stated
