CCIB: Organization in Bucharest of a “Week of Chilean Products” would result in a better knowledge of the business communities

The organization of a “Week of Chilean Products” in Bucharest would lead to a better knowledge of the business communities in Romania and Chile, claims the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Bucharest Municipality (CCIB), Sorin Dimitriu.

According to a release of this institution, the CCIB head met on Monday with the Ambassador of the Chilean Republic in Romania, Jose Miguel Menchaca.

In the beginning of the meeting, Sorin Dimitriu presented the Romanian bicameral system, organized based on Law no. 335/2007, which gives total autonomy to the county chambers, but also the CCIB activity, which is a representative organization for the business environment of the Capital City, enjoying openness and international recognition, as well as the Bucharest Chamber’s strategies in terms of foreign relations.

“On this occasion, the CCIB head underscored that the development of the economic and commercial relations with the countries in Latin America represents a priority of the CCIB strategy. In this context, he appreciated that the organization of a “Business Opportunities Day” dedicated to countries belonging to the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico) will ensure an efficient promotion of the key-fields of activity of the member countries’ economies and of the applicable legal framework and investors, and it will allow the identification of the Romanian companies interested in these markets, companies that later could take part in an economic mission organized by the Bucharest chamber on the American continent, in the third quarter of this year,” says the release.

Moreover, according to Sorin Dimitru, the organization of a “Week of Chilean Products” in Bucharest would result in a better knowledge of the two business communities. The CCIB President pointed out that for the success of these projects there is need of a good collaboration with he similar organizations in Chile.

In his turn, Jose Miguel Menchaca appreciated the proposals of the head of the Bucharest chamber and assured him of his entire cooperation in projects concerning bilateral trade exchanges. The Ambassador of the Chilean Republic to Romania underscored that the history of Romanian-Chilean economic relations is old, with Romania participating in the development of the mining and metallurgical industries in his country, both with equipment and technology, and also with specialists (technicians and engineers), while the Romanian professionals today are involved in the field of energy (solar, wind energy) in Chile.

The Romanian-Chilean trade exchanges recorded a peak of 48.8 million dollars in 2017 (+10.4 per cent), due to the high level of Romanian exports, of 44.4 million dollars (+11 per cent), imports accounting for 4.4 million dollars. Chile is the fourth export market for the Romanian products in the region, after Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, and ahead of Argentina.
