The forces of the Ministry of Interior (MAI) intervened in the past twelve hours in many situations where people had to suffer because of the snowfalls and strong winds, MAI announced on Friday.
“During the night, the forces of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Mehedinti County, together with the local authorities, showed up to unblock six people who remained stranded with their cars in the woods, near the Valea Izvorului locality, because of the snow. The people were released and transported to Drobeta Turnu Severin to safety,’ reads a release of the MAI remitted to AGERPRES.
In the Buzau County, in Cotorca locality, a microbus with 10 people on board derailed on the County Road 10SH, forcing the local authorities to intervene.
“In the Prahova County, because of the speed unadjusted to the weather conditions, there took place a chain-reaction crash involving eight vehicles, among which a SMURD one. In the same area two trains also crashed, causing a traffic blockage. These accidents caused no victims,” showed the release.
In the Bragadiru locality, in Ilfov County, the ambulance remained blocked in the snow, with another ambulance being sent from Magurele to take over the patient.
According to MAI, in Arges, the road traffic on NR73, in the area of the Dragoslavele locality, traffic was interrupted on both directions after a tree fell on the roadway.
Moreover, on the NR7, between Pitesti and Ramnicu Valcea, the traffic is restricted for vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, in order to allow the winter service vehicles to do their job on this segment.
“In the Mures County, on NR153, the MAI forces intervened to help six adults and 31 children who were in a bus that derailed on the NR 153, close to the Reghin locality. The children were safely transported to the school in this locality, until they will be taken over by another bus,” reads the release.
In the Teleorman County, the MAI forces and the local authorities acted to unblock several cars that remained stuck in the snow.
In Dolj County, on NR55, between the Rojiste and Bratovoesti localities, an ambulance who was going after a 55-year old patient suffering from a pulmonary edema derailed because of snow, leaving the road. Winter service vehicles came at the spot to free the ambulance, which then continued its road to bring the patient to the hospital.
Also in the Dolj COunty, on the NR 561A, in the Motatei locality, am ambulance belonging to the county service that was going to take a dialyzed patient remained block, so that the intervention of the winter service vehicles was needed from the county roads authority and the local voluntary service for emergency situations.
Moreover, on the NR516B, between the Segarcea and the Valea Stanciului localities, a mission with an ambulance having an winter service vehicle opening the road for it is currently underway to take over a 56-year old patient.
Freezing weather closes traffic on A2 motorway, eight county roads, restrict traffic on four national roads
The Bucharest-Drajna section of the A2 motorway has been preventively closed and action is being taken to clear up snow, traffic has been restricted on four national roads, while and eight county roads are closed because of heavy snowfall and strong winds.
“On most of the national and county roads in the areas under bad weather warning, traffic takes place in wintry conditions, with eight county roads being closed. The state of the roads is in flux and periodically communicated by the Infotraffic Centre of the Romanian Police and the Ministry of Transport,” the Interior Ministry (MAI) informed in a press statement released on Friday.
As far as sea and inland traffic are concerned, the Sulina Bar as well as the ports of Midia and Mangalia are closed and speed limits have been imposed on inland traffic because of an increase in the Danube flow.
Also, ferryboat traffic through the Turnu Magurele border crossing point is closed due to bad weather conditions and at the Bechet crossing point traffic is restricted for vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of less than 3.5 tonnes, which are redirected toward the Calafat crossing point.
“The situation is centralised and permanently monitored at the National Integrated Steering Centre, operating at MAI, aided by representatives of the bodies managing emergencies caused by severe weather phenomena,” according to MAI.
CFR Calatori cancels 41 trains on Friday morning, due to bad weather
Romania’s CFR Calatori national railway passenger corporation canceled on Friday 41 trains because of bad weather, the company informed.
At 7:00hrs, trains were canceled on the following routes: Bucharest – Constanta and back, Bucharest – Tulcea and back, Tulcea -Medgidia, Ciulnita – Slobozia Veche and back, Caracal – Corabia and back, Lotru – Poatra Olt, Piatra Olt – Potcoava and back, Potcoava – Caracal and back, Caracal – Slatina, Slatina – Piatra Olt, Piatra Olt – Craiova, Craiova – Brailesct and back, Rosiori – Turnu Magurele and back, Alexandria – Rosiori Nord, Buzau – Constanta and back, Craiova – Sibiu and back, Piatra Olt – Pitesti and back.
“The Winter Command has been established on the South-East Branches and the units’ railway teams (revisions, depots, etc) are ready to intervene in order to ensure the necessary conditions for a safe travel. In the affected areas the diesel engines were withdrawn and diesel engines locomotives with plows for removing snow have been introduced,” representatives of the CFR Calatori mention.
CNAB: 12 flights canceled because of the weather
Eight flights of two low cost airlines for the routes with Treviso, Pisa, Stockholm and Istanbul were canceled on Friday because of the bad weather conditions, with the national airline also cancelling four flights, according to representatives of the National Company of Bucharest Airports (CNAB).
Thus, Wizz canceled the round flights between Bucharest, on one hand, and Stockholm, Pisa and Treviso, on the other hand, and Pegasus canceled its flight to Istanbul, on both directions, while TAROM canceled its flights Bucharest-Cluj and Bucharest-Chisinau, also on both directions.
According to the CNAB, the air traffic was continuing in winter conditions on the International Henri Coanda Airport and the Aurel Vlaicu International Airport Bucharest Baneasa, at 11:00 EET, according to the flight schedule.
“Some flights have suffered delays because of the time needed to defrost the aircraft and remove the snow from the platforms, tracks, runaways, which is absolutely necessary in order to operate the craft in safety conditions. The airport infrastructure is operational, with the movement areas being maintained at optimum standards,” reads the abovementioned release.
