Chamber’s Opposition lodges simple motion against Culture Minister Ivascu

The Opposition in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday lodged a simple motion against Culture Minister George Ivascu (photo) called “The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is trampling under the biggest celebration of Romanians everywhere – the Greater Union Centennial.”

The motion is sponsored by 108 MPs from PNL, the Save Romania Union (USR) and the People’s Movement Party (PMP).

“Tomorrow, March 27, 2018, it is 100 years since the Assembly of Basarabia unanimously signed the union with the motherland. Of the 2,042 projects submitted by the local and central administration to the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, at least 100 concerned the anniversary of March 27, 1918. All of these projects have been abusively cancelled by the unilateral decision of the current minister of culture. We are at the end of the first quarter of the Centennial. We believe that although there is no ill will in managing this great celebration of all Romanians, the management is faulty,” PNL’s Gigel Stirbu told a plenary session of the Chamber.
