Former FinMin Ionut Misa is the new head of the Fiscal Administration. President Iohannis: I was a little surprised

Ionut Misa has been appointed president in rank of secretary of state with the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), by a decision of PM Viorica Dancila, which was published on Wednesday in the Official Journal.

Ionut Misa was Minister of Public Finance in ex-PM’s Mihai Tudose Cabinet.

By another decision of the head of the Executive, Mirela Calugareanu has been removed from his office as head of ANAF.

ANAF was restructured from the ground, 24 heads were dismissed

Speaking about the restructuring of ANAF, FinMin Eugen Teodorovici said that 24 heads of the Fiscal Administration were dismissed. Being asked on Tuesday evening, in a TV show, if the information circulated in the public space according to which the former Finance Minister Ionut Misa was to be nominated as the head of ANAF, the incumbent ForMin Eugen Teodorovici said: “Normally, we communicate only what is published in the Official Journal, but I can only confirm to you that there is a proposal made by the Prime-Minister to appoint Mr. Ionut Misa as the head of ANAF”.

The measure was taken a few days after Eugen Teodorovici made the employees of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration to perform overtime work in their offices.

He said that the assessments within ANAF should take place permanently, since this institution is responsible of almost “everything that means economy and not only this”.

“There should be permanent assessments (…) since it is an important structure of the state, on whose activity depends almost everything that means economy and not only this. The assessment to be made by the next management will bring a clear plan of measures designed to change the situation, will bring ideas and solutions to lead to an approach that is much more fair, efficient and not only, and that dialogue with the economic environment and with every taxpayer, as it should be” the Finance Minister explained.

Also asked if the change of the ANAF head is a result of the problems related to the tax collection in the first two months of the year, the Minister said that he will discuss about the whole situation after the decision of appointing Misa as the head of ANAF will be published in the Official Journal.

“In this regard, I would ask you to let me discuss about the whole situation when the decision to appoint Mr. Ionut Misa as the head of ANAF will be published in the Official Journal; after this, we’ll also talk about the arguments on which this decision was based” Teodorovici said.

The Finance Minister stated on Wednesday evening at Antena 3 that those who have leading positions must be responsible for their position.

“I strongly believe that when you are a state employee you must also do something for the state. When you are a minister, a state secretary, the ANAF president, vice-president, a general manager and not only, you must understand your job and be responsible for the position you have” Teodorovici stated.

The Minister appreciates that the team of the Fiscal Administration is one of the best teams in the Romanian public administration.

“It’s a solid team. I’ve said many times that it made the economy to stand on its feet” the Minister also said.

President Iohannis: I was a little surprised by Misa’s appointment at ANAF

President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday he was “a little surprised” to learn about the appointment of former Finance Minister Ionut Misa as head of the National Tax Administration Agency (ANAF).

“I was a little bit surprised when I found out. Otherwise, he has to do his job,” said Iohannis.
