PM Viorica Dancila does not intend to resign. Liviu Dragnea’s reaction to PM’s resignation rumour: “Mrs Dancila to stay at least until 2020”

On Monday, before the Social Democratic Party’s (PSD) National Executive Committee (NatExCom) meeting, Premier Viorica Dancila denied the public rumours according to which she allegedly intends to resign, Liviu Dragnea stating she will remain Prime Minister “at least” until 2020.

“No, certainly not. I’d be curious to find out (the source of the rumours – editor’s note), because they certainly didn’t start from me,” Premier Viorica Dancila stated when asked whether the rumours according to which she intends to resign are true.

In his turn, when asked whether Viorica Dancila will remain Head of Government “until 2020,” PSD President Liviu Dragnea said: “Yes. At least.”

Asked about a potential emergency ordinance that would modify the criminal codes, Liviu Dragnea crossed himself.

Premier Viorica Dancila met PSD President Liviu Dragnea shortly before PSD’s Executive Committee meeting where she was set to present her first Government review of the period she has been in office, the possibility of organising a public rally of support for the Government and for the governance programme also being among the topics discussed.

Political sources told MEDIAFAX that PSD President Liviu Dragnea told the leaders of the party’s territorial branches that he would like 1 million people in the street to support the governance programme.

Asked, on April 10, whether the Government will be evaluated at the PSD’s NatExCom meeting, Liviu Dragnea said: “No. The Prime Minister will make a presentation, an analysis, a mini-review.”

Asked whether he is satisfied with the activity of the members of the Dancila Cabinet, Dragnea said: “I’m satisfied with the Prime Minister’s activity,” pointing out however that the governance programme is being implemented by the book.

The leader of PSD dismissed the probability of a Government reshuffle. Nevertheless, when asked about this probability in the long term, considering that the press is talking about such threats being levelled, Dragnea said: “Well, normally. There are some friends of ours who must make up something every week, but there aren’t any (talks about a reshuffle – editor’s note). In the next 10 years there will probably be some reshuffles, but not in the immediately following period from what I know.”

PSD leader Liviu Dragnea also dismissed the public rumour regarding the resignation of Premier Viorica Dancila.

After his meeting with the Head of Government, a meeting that took place in his office at the Palace of Parliament before the PSD’s NatExCom meeting, Dragnea told journalists that Viorica Dancila will remain the Premier until 2020 at least.

“I don’t understand. I understand there’s a shortage of stories, but can’t you make up one instead of four?” Dragnea reacted. Asked by journalists whether Viorica Dancila will stay in office until “20/20,” a reference to the Premier’s mistake, Liviu Dragnea said: “Yes, at least.”
