Art and Trade. 150 years since the founding of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) and the National Museum of Art of Romania, as organizers, announce the opening of the painting, graphics and sculpture exhibition called “ART and TRADE. 150 years since the founding of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry”, which will be held at the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR) located at 49-53 Calea Victoriei (the access through the Court of Honor).

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the CCIB President, Univ. Prof. Sorin Dimitriu, PhD., and by the General Manager of MNAR, Arch. Liviu Constantinescu, and will be open from April 26 to May 27, 2018.

The exhibition project, gathering more than 50 works of Romanian and European painting, graphics and sculpture and documents, is the first one of a series of four original exhibitions prepared by CCI Bucharest, in cooperation with Bucharest museums, in order to celebrate 150 years of continuous activity.

The exhibition at the National Museum of Art of Romania gather works of artists such as Carol Popp de Szathmari, Emil Volkers, Ioan Andreescu, Nicolae Grigorescu, Sava Hentia, Stefan Popescu, Gheorghe Petrascu, Francisc Sirato, Camil Ressu, Jean Alexandru Steriadi, Elena Popea, Margareta Sterian, Frederic Storck, Poitevin Skeletti, Olarian Mircea and Iosif Rosenbluth.

Several exhibits of European painting and medieval sculpture, as well as documents from the Bucharest Chamber’s Archives will be exhibited – proofs over the time of the evolution of our country’s commercial life. In addition to the picturesque images of the Romanian fairs and markets from the beginning of the 19th century, visitors will have the opportunity to discover several portraits of some of the most important businessmen of the 19th century who were involved in developing the chamber system in our country, contributing to the modernization of the Romanian economy.

Highlighting, including by cultural means, the role played by the Bucharest Chamber, and implicitly by the chamber system, in developing and modernizing the economy, is one of the objectives of the CCI Bucharest to be reached through the special program of events prepared for celebrating 150 years of existence.

The program of the anniversary events includes, besides exhibitions, book launches and photo album, CCI Bucharest Open Day, organizing meetings and debates on topical economic issues, as well as a festive Gala to be held in October at the Romanian Athenaeum.
