Viorel Catarama, First Vice President of PNL’s District 2 branch, announced on Sunday, during PNL Bucharest’s meeting, that he wants to run as the party’s candidate for the Bucharest City Hall.
“I inform you I will file my bid for a nomination as PNL’s candidate for the Bucharest City Hall,” Viorel Catarama said.
He was applauded by the Liberals present at the conference of PNL’s Bucharest branch, held at the Palace of Parliament.
“In Bucharest we were told the united Right will defeat Firea. It’s not true. PNL will defeat Firea, because we are the only right-wing party in Romania. For the past year colleagues have talked to me about an alliance led by Mr Ciolos, a political imposter who sucked PNL’s sap and betrayed it. I’m being told that there are state structures, individuals who are working in some secret laboratories so that the PNL would not win the elections. Nobody is paid from public funds to create or bury parties. We are a party with all chances and all trump cards to win the elections. On one condition – that we eliminate the socialist elements in our discourse, that we eliminate from our midst those who propagate socialist ideas in the public space – I’m talking about Senator Zamfir, who has harmed us so much –, that we adopt a right-wing programme and focus on the electorate that votes for the Right,” Catarama added.
Busoi on Catarama’s candidacy announcement: Let’s see all options
The President of PNL Bucharest stated on Sunday, referring to Viorel Catarama’s announcement regarding his intention to run for the Bucharest City Hall, that it must be seen what all options are in the party and then an assessment based on objective criteria must be conducted.
“There is still a long time left for these persons to confirm or not. As president, I must see all options and we must obey objective criteria. I appreciate the fact that he announced this intention. Even if they haven’t announced it publicly, there are also other colleagues from the Bucharest branch that would want to enter the fray. We will see at that point,” PNL Bucharest President Cristian Busoi stated.
