PNL Chamber floor group files objection with court over servicing of alternatives to deprivation of liberty

The National Liberal Party (PNL) floor group in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday filed a constitutionality objection with the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) over the Law on alternative measures to deprivation of liberty sentences.

PNL argues that the law violates several provisions of the Constitution – Article 1(4) and (5), Article 61 (2), Article 74(4) and Article 75.

“This piece of legislation on alternatives to deprivation of liberty sentences blatantly violates the principle of bicameralism as the version that passed through the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making chamber in this case, majorly differ from the version adopted by the first chamber, the Senate of Romania,” PNL explains.
