Ion Caramitru will recite lyrics by Nichita Stanescu at the International Week of New Music, at the Radio Hall

International Week of New music (Saptamana Internationala a Muzicii Noi – SIMN) brings an extremely exciting program on the stage of the Radio Hall. Thus, actor Ion Caramitru will recite lyrics of the poet Nichita Stanescu in the oratory entitled “A Land Called Romania” (“Un pamant numit Romania”), composed by Liviu Glodeanu. At the same concert, you will have the opportunity to listen the suite composed by Tiberiu Olah for the soundtrack of the famous historical movie Mihai Viteazul, made in 1970 and directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu.

Developed under the aegis of the Centenary of the Great Union, the 28th edition of the International Week of New Music brings important works of the contemporary Romanian repertoire in front of the audience. Two special concerts within the event will be held on the stage of the Radio Hall, with the participation of four Radio Orchestras and Choirs; Radio Romania – The Musical Bands Department is the producer of the festival.

Thus, on Wednesday, May 23 (19.00), The Radio Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of conductor SEBASTIAN FELEA, invites you to listen the work called “Patimile mântuitorului – Cantată sacră pentru cinci solişti şi orchestră de camera” (“Savior’s Passion – Sacred Cantata for Five Soloists and Chamber Orchestra” – e.n.), signed by Diana SIMION. You will applaud the vocal soloists: ARIADNA MIHAI, ANTONELA BARNAT, ANDREI MIHALCEA, FLORIN SIMIONCA and IUSTINIAN ZETEA. In the second part of the evening, you will appreciate the concert opera in one act The Piano Teacher, composed by Tudor FERARU and performed by the soloists: OANA TRIMBITAS, ANTONELA BARNAT, TIBERIUS SIMU and CRISTIAN HODREA.

On Friday, May 25 (19.00), the National Radio Orchestra, the Academic Radio Choir (conductor: CIPRIAN TUTU) and the Children Radio Choir (conductor: VOICU POPESCU) will perform at the International Week of New Music, under the musical guidance of conductor VALENTIN DONI. The event proposes the audience’s meeting with the suite from the famous historical movie Mihai Viteazul, written by Tiberiu Olah, and with the oratory “A Land Called Romania”, on the lyrics of the poet Nichita Stanescu, a work signed by Liviu Glodeanu, a composer who died forty years ago. At this concert, you will applaud the vocal soloists: IRINA IORDACHESCU, GEANINA MUNTEAU and DANIEL FILIPESCU, as well as the actor ION CARAMITRU.

The International Week of New Music (May 20-27, 2018) is an event organized by the Ministry of Culture and national Identity and by the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists.

The Artistic Manager of the festival, Dan Dediu, stated about this year’s edition: “The 28th edition of the festival called International Week of New Music is marked, on the one hand, by continuity, and on the other hand, by change. The conceptual continuity manifests itself by keeping the format of the festival – its theme remains ‘Limits… and beyond them!’ and also keeping the lines of force, as well as the portrayal of some important Romanian composers (…), and by the emphasis on the promotion of young Romanian composers and performers. On the other hand, the proactive part of the festival is given by programming some works that have been almost forgotten, as well as by orders of last minute works, written by famous or very young contemporary composers, and dedicated to instrumental ensembles with unusual compositions”.

The concerts can be listened live on all the Radio Romania Cultural and Radio Romania Muzical frequencies in the country, as well as in online live streaming, at www.radioromaniacultural.ro and www.romania-muzical.ro.
