MAE’s Stanescu: Permanent dialogue is optimal method to directly identify issues of Romanians abroad

Director General of the Consular Department within the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) Bogdan Stanescu stated that the optimal way to directly identify the issues that the Romanian citizens who are traveling or working abroad are confronted with consists in the permanent dialogue with them.

According to a MAE release, meetings of the institution’s representatives with members of the Romanian community of Italy, as well as with diplomats with consular authority accredited on the territory of this state were held in Rome on Saturday.

The quoted source mentions that Bogdan Stanescu highlighted the usefulness of the alert service ‘A SMS can save your life,’ the ‘Safe Travel’ app, the SMS alert system for Romanian citizens whose electronic passports expired, implemented in partnership with the Interior Ministry, as well as information on to risk situations. At the same time, the activity of the MAE Crisis Cell was presented.

“Moreover, also presented were the demarches to modernise and computerise the Romanian consular network through the implementation of the E-Cons Consular Information System, publicly launched under the motto ‘The Consulate, closer to your home,’ together with all the component subsystems (E-Visa, E-Pass, the National Information System on Visas, the Contact and Support Center of Romanian Citizens Abroad – Call-Center and Mail-Center modules, the Information System for Integrated Management of Services for Citizens). In this context, it was underscored the importance of correct and real-time information of the Romanian citizens who benefit from new platforms for consular services, and the community members who attended the meeting were encouraged to capitalise on the advantages of these systems and disseminate the information received among the local Romanian communities,” the MAE mentioned.

The meeting, which carried out within the campaign called “Dialogue with the Diaspora on consular topic,” ended with a series of questions and answers regarding the consular activity, but also with other topics of interest for the Romanians abroad.

This was the 4th edition of the campaign that was launched in 2015. The event started in March in Bonn and it will continue in Cairo, having set as a priority the information of the Romanian communities of the Diaspora regarding the benefits of the “E-Cons” integrated system. Its role is to facilitate the direct contact with Romanian citizens and to popularize the modernised and computerised consular services available to them, so that the “E-Cons” platform be used as efficiently as possible.
