Gunter Verheugen on stage at Microsoft Business Summit. First names confirmed for the largest business technology event organised by Microsoft Romania in November

The sixth edition of the Microsoft Business Summit, the annual business technology event that has become one of the most important summits of the Romanian business sector, will take place on November 6th this year, at the ‘I.L. Caragiale’ National Theatre of Bucharest. The Microsoft Business Summit will once again bring before its audience some of the most important voices of the digitalisation process that defines our present – with all its facets, from commercial visions that have reinvented whole industries, to systemic transformation on a national and supranational scale that redefines modern society.

Gunther Verheugen, former European Commissioner for Enlargement, and Ed Vaizey, former British Minister for Culture, Communications and Industries, are among those who will be present on the stage at the Microsoft Business Summit.

One of the architects of European enlargement – and of the Union’s current model of functioning –, Gunter Verheugen is one of the respected voices in the debate on the transnational aspects created (and required) by a global and connected society. As a politician who held key positions in national and European structures, he is one of the few who can talk, with the authority imparted by experience, about the challenges of historic transformations: from national to pan-European, from protectionism to common markets, from industrial to digital.

Ed Vaizey was member of Her Majesty’s Government for 6 years (2010-2016), the longest-acting Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries in the history of that office, and a minister whose activity was saluted at the conclusion of his term, through an open letter signed by 150 of the biggest creative personalities in the United Kingdom.

“In our view, digitalisation has come out of the era of promotion and has entered the era of responsibility. Prestigious international bodies and think-tanks are increasingly talking about the role of technology in any domain of life, and the message is very clear: those who do not embrace it risk remaining behind; in business, in society, in innovation. This is what we intend through the Microsoft Business Summit: to show, even beyond the Microsoft brand and products, that digital transformation is here, and, in an increasingly digital world, traditional borders are no longer the safety limit. Each year we are trying to bring strong voices who talk from experience and who generated major change at some point. We hope that these voices would make themselves heard by all audiences: official, business and at a personal level, by each member of society,” Microsoft Romania General Manager Gabriela Matei said.

The 2017 edition brought together more than 800 top managers representing the most dynamic sectors of the Romanian economy, from agriculture to financial or IT, 30 speakers and more than 25 hours of simultaneous activity divided into several lines of interest.

The ‘I.L. Caragiale’ National Theatre of Bucharest – a venue that has already become traditional – will once again be the host of the event, this being the third consecutive edition organised within the theatre halls located at the heart of Bucharest. November 6 will feature conferences, workshops and lectures that will condense the global impact of new digital technologies and paradigms on the way organisations relate to economies and societies that undergo a process of continuous transformation.
