DHL Carpathian Marathon 2018 is SOLD OUT!

A team of more than 140 people and 5,000 preparation hours, to provide the runners with an unrivaled experience!

Only a few hours have left until the start of one of the most awaited mountain running competitions in Romania: 98% on mountain paths and only 2% on asphalt! DHL Carpathian Marathon will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Cheile Gradistei – Fundata, and expects all the passionate movers to enjoy an unrivaled experience, in the heart of one of the wildest regions in Europe, the Carpathian Mountains.

We are glad to announce that all available seats in the contest have been taken, and the event is SOLD OUT! Almost 1,500 runners, adults and children, attended an invitation to participate in a special competition with a stimulating atmosphere, but also to fight for the dreams of the Romanian Paralympics, the cause that DHL Carpathian Marathon supports for the fourth year in a row, under the urge: “Discover new horizons. Give value to your race!”. All funds raised from this event will be donated to the National Paralympic Committee.

The participants will start on June 16, at 10:00 in the Race Village, arranged at the Cheile Gradistei – Fundata complex, Brasov County, and will enjoy running on routes of 42 km, 21 km and 7 km – relay race, but also on shorter distances, in children’s races. Fundata, guarded by the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains, is the highest locality in the country, at 1360 meters, and they say that the cleanest air is here. Thus, the participants will benefit from a real sporting experience in nature, enjoying the wonderful landscape and spectacular trails.

More than 5,000 hours of work have been spent and more than 50 vehicles, trucks and ATVs have been deployed to implement the 9th DHL Carpathian Marathon edition. The routes cross unique areas, tackled for the first time by a mountain running competition in Romania, some of them not being explored even by the most experienced athletes.

“I am eager to participate again in this wonderful experience, to run at the relay race, and I hope all participants are as enthusiastic as me! All of us must definitely be grateful for being part of this event, for running and making our efforts count, because this way we contribute to the performance of the Romanian Paralympic athletes, the social cause of the event! At the moment, almost 1,500 participants have joined this unique, unforgettable experience. It is a traditional event, with great potential, with amazing people who have accepted this challenge, and I think all we have to do is simply enjoy this experience! We will see you at the starting line on Saturday at Cheile Gradistei!” said Daniel Kearvell, General Manager of DHL Express Romania.

The 2018 edition benefits from the support offered by outstanding athletes and public personalities, including Gabriela Szabo, Andreea Raducan, Constantina Dita, Miodrag Belodedici, Sonia Silver Ionescu, Chef Simona Pope, Eli Roman, Dragos Bucurenci, nutritionist Serban Damian, Andrei Red, Marian Dragulescu. We will meet some of them at the starting line, on June 16, at Cheile Gradistei – Fundata! Sonia Argint Ionescu and her husband, Horatiu, will take part in the relay race, teaming with Daniel Kearvell. Andrei Rosu will also compete at the relay race in a team of 6 people, while nutritionist Serban Damian and Chef Simona Pope will run in the Semi-Marathon race. Andreea Raducan and Gabriela Szabo will be present at the Start / Finish area to support and encourage competitors for their efforts.

And because the power of the example is essential, Paralympic athletes will compete in the relay race. Abel Ciorap, Florin Craciun and Mihai Vitan are the three athletes who will demonstrate what it means to believe, to fight and to want to fulfill a great dream through work, determination and an amazing ambition!

In addition, in order to know these extraordinary athletes closely and to see a series of demonstrations made by them, all participants at the DHL Carpathian Marathon 2018 can take part on Saturday at the activities dedicated to the Paralympic Sports Day, held at the same venue. Wheelchair tennis, table tennis, goalball, archery and athletics are the 5 disciplines for which 18 Paralympic athletes will offer demonstrations in 20 minutes. Those present can watch these activities, interact with the athletes and participate in activities carried out. The purpose is to realize that Paralympic athletes are capable of outstanding performance, just like any of those passionate about moving.

The 2018 edition of DHL Carpathian Marathon is organized by DHL Express Romania in partnership with MPG Romania.
