After the athlete Simona Halep has become the first Romanian tennis player that conquers the Paris trophy after 40 years, the local authorities of one of the resorts on the Prahova Valley have prepared a new surprise to the great champion.
On July 1, 2018, in order to celebrate 110 years since the first documentary attestation of the locality of Busteni, the municipality decided to issue and put into circulation a limited series of 400 postcards with Simona Halep’s face and the Roland Garros trophy. The event is included in the “Busteni Days”, which will be organized in this weekend.
Being declared an “Honorary Citizen” of Busteni since 2013, this is the second time when the Busteni Municipality issues a postcard dedicated to the tennis champ Simona Halep. In December of the last year, after she became the world leader for the first time, the athlete received her first postcard of this kind. St that time, the Busteni Municipality organized a surprise event to honor her at the headquarters of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. In the presence of Senator Emanoil Savin, the one who declared Simona Halep as “Honorary Citizen” of Busteni when he was the mayor of the city, as well as of the Chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mihai Covaliu, and of the current mayor of Busteni Irinel Ghita, the world WTA number 1, Simona Halep, entered the history of Romanian philately, too. More specifically, on the occasion of winning the world’s trophy at the end of 2017, Busteni Municipality, the Bartoc Cultural Foundation, the Philatelic Association of Bucharest and the national postal operator Posta Romana made an occasional postal stamp and postcard dedicated to this event. The stamp contained the inscription “World number 1 in the WTA ranking of 2017”. The stamp was used exclusively on 19 December 2017 at the Busteni Post Office, with the approval of the Romanian Post Office, and was applied to all the correspondence that went through that post office on that date. The postcard presented Simona Halep with the Earth Globe, on which the People’s Republic of China was figured, where, in Beijing, on October 7, 2017, she became the world leader. On the back, the postcard had the inscription “Simona Halep, an honorary citizen of Busteni, became the world tennis leader on October 7, 2017, in Beijing”; the text was printed on a picture of Busteni. The postcards were printed in only 500 copies.
We must add that Simona Halep will also appear on the cover of the book dedicated to the personalities who are “Honorary Citizens” of Busteni, a volume written by Ilie Dobre that will be released also during the events organized in Busteni between June 28 and July 1, 2018.
