The Standing Bureau of the House decided on Wednesday that the extraordinary session should be convened on July 2-19. According to PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, the extraordinary session will be convened to adopt the amendments to the Criminal Codes. The Administrative Code, a bill that features numerous controversial provisions, could also be adopted during the extraordinary session.
PSD President Liviu Dragnea stated on Monday that adopting the amendments to the Criminal Codes via an emergency ordinance is ruled out at this moment. Thus, asked whether this procedure is ruled out at this moment, he said: “Yes.”
“You said that. I know exactly what I discussed on Friday evening. We were all there and I said, and I keep saying, that the procedures must be expedited, because we are very long overdue. We will have an extraordinary session, but we cannot have an extraordinary session all summer. So then, Mr Tariceanu and I, we will ask the committee to finalise the Criminal Code, for it to go to the final voting, after which it enters the regular circuit,” Dragnea said when asked whether Friday’s Executive Committee meeting discussed the potential issuance of a government emergency ordinance amending the Criminal Codes.
According to the regulations, the House also holds extraordinary sessions, at the request lodged by the Romanian President, the Standing Bureau or at least one third of the members of the House.
