Sinaia to host the Elegance Contest of historical cars

Sinaia, Prahova County, will host a new edition of the Elegance Contest, an event that highlights historical vehicles that are still functional. The public will be able to see even a car that participated in the famous Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este from Italy.

On June 30, 2018, in Prahova County, Retromobil Club Romania, under the High Patronage of Prince Radu of Romania, in partnership with Sinaia Municipality and Peles National Museum, will organize the 8th edition of the Sinaia Elegance Contest, an event under the aegis of the National Authority of the International Federation of Old Vehicles (FIVA). According to the schedule of the event, the participating historical cars can be admired on the Peles royal domain from 10.00 to 16.00; the parade in front of the Peles Castle will take place from 12.00 to 13.30. The parade on the streets of Sinaia will start at 17.00, while the awarding ceremony will start at 18.00 in front of the Sinaia Casino. The Peles Royal Domain hosts the contest every year, on the last Saturday of June, and the landscape is perfect for such an event. Launched by Automobil Clubul Roman Regal in 1934 – the edition of that time being held under the high patronage of HM King Carol II -, and resumed by Retromobil Club Romania in 2011, the event offers to thousands of spectators the chance to discover rare and elegant cars and the extraordinary stories behind them.

The nine categories of vehicles in the competition are Pre-war: Sedan/Cabriolet/Coupe, Classic: Sedan/Cabriolet/Coupe, Made in Romania, Competition Vehicles and Moto. Historical cars with FIVA identity card are accepted in the competition. Thus, in this weekend, in Sinaia, the following old cars, real jewelries on wheels, can be admired: Renault Type 2 Torpedo (1921 edition), Ford Model A Phaeton (1929), Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A Sidelfingen (1937), Adler Trumph Junior Cabriolet Karmann (1938), Packard One-Twenty Convertible (1940). The “Pre-war Sedan” category: Dodge Victory Six (1928), Fiat 520 (1928), Ford Model A Fordor Murray (1928), Pontiac Six Model 401 (1931), Plymouth P2 DeLuxe (1936). The “Post-war sedan” category: Cadillac Sedan DeVille (1960), Mercedes-Benz 280 S/8 (1972), Renault 10 Major (1967), Citroen 11 CV (1947), Alfa Romeo Alfa 90 2.0 6V Iniezione (1987), Mercedes-Benz 250 S Lang (1981). The “Post-war Cabriolet” category: Jaguar XK 120 Alloy Roadster (1949), Ford Mustang (1966), Jaguar E Type (1970 ), Mercedes-Benz 560 SL (1987), Ghia 450 SS (1967 ). The “Post-war Coupe” category: Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1969), Ford Thunderbird (1964), Buick Riviera (1972), Cadillac Eldorado (1978), BMW 2002 (1971). The “Made in Romania”: Dacia 1100 (1971), Dacia 1300 (1970 ), Oltcit Special (1986), Dacia 1300 (1970). We mention that part of the owners of the historical cars who will come to Sinaia for the Elegance Contest are from abroad. They are the owner of the Pontiac Six Model 401, the 1931 edition, who is from Serbia, the owner of the Citroen 11 CV, the 1947 edition, who is from Bulgaria, and the owner of a Ford Mustang, the 1966 edition, who comes from Germany.

The international nature of this year’s edition is also given by the personalities in the jury, namely: Stewart F.I.V.A.- Valentin Zbynovsky (Slovakia), the Chairman of the jury – Wolfgang Buchta (Austria), members – Peter Steinfurth (Germany),  Nebojsa Djordjevic (Serbia), Andras Noszvai (Hungary), Pal Negyesi (Hungary), Bogdan Militaru (Romania), Aldo Sforza (Italy),  Dan Vardie (Romania).

The oldest car participating in the Sinaia 2018 Elegance Contest is Renault Type 2 Torpedo, the 1921 edition, but some extremely rare cars can also be seen, such as the Jaguar XK 120 Aloy, from 1949. The FIAT 520 (the 1928 edition), which was used for this year’s Bucharest-San Remo race, will be present, too. Last but not least, Tiriac Collection will participate also this year, for the seventh year in a row, in the Sinaia Elegance Contest, competing with a Mercedes Benz 540 K Cabriolet A Sidelfingen (the 1937 edition), made in only 83 copies, being a car that competed in Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the famous Italian competition.
