On Sunday, July 1, the pension point grew by 10 percent, from RON 1,000 to RON 1,100, and the minimum guaranteed pension grew by 20 percent. Net year, the pension point is expected to grow by 15 percent.
Premier Viorica Dancila announced last Thursday that the pension point will grow by 10 percent on July 1.
“Starting on July 1, the Romanians’ pensions will grow. The pension point will grow by 10 percent, from RON 1,000 to RON 1,100. The minimum guaranteed pension will grow by 23 percent, from RON 520 to RON 640,” Dancila said.
The Premier stated that the benefits for persons with disabilities will also grow on July 1.
The 2018-2020 governance programme stipulates that the pension point will stand at RON 1,265 in 2019 and RON 1,775 in 2020.
Former Finance Minister Ionut Misa stated in August 2017 that the pension fund’s deficit is expected to grow to RON 17.2 billion, from RON 14.1 billion the year before.
In May this year, Deputy Premier Viorel Stefan stated that the pension fund deficit was reduced by half compared to 2016 thanks to the transfer of social security contributions from the employer to the employee.
