Congratulatory message from Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Independence Day: We are looking forward to continue enhancing our cooperation with the US

On the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States, it is our distinct pleasure to convey to our American friends and allies our warmest congratulations, as well as best wishes of success and prosperity.

Every time the United States of America celebrates its founding moment, the free world resounds with the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. These words resonate through the centuries, and continue to guide us – countries and nations – in our endeavors to embody the core values in our societies.

At this moment of joy for celebration of the United States, Romania stands in reunion with its close ally, partner and friend.

The Strategic Partnership for the 21st Century between Romania and the United States is the cornerstone of our relationship and has renewed the whole specter of our bilateral interaction by strengthening every dimension of its structure. We both accomplished an intense and thorough work during the last period to deliver solid results in the framework of our Partnership.

The recent Joint Statement adopted at the end of the sixth Romania-US Strategic Dialogue meeting, on June 19 reconfirmed the solidity of our bilateral Partnership and the avenues we want to build upon in the future.

Romania remains profoundly engaged in supporting a robust Transatlantic partnership. We consider the Strategic Partnership between the United States and the EU as paramount in safeguarding the common security and prosperity of both parties.

The military and security dimension remains a top priority, as proven by the accomplishments achieved during last year. Romania and the US have a track-record of bilateral cooperation in providing security and stability at regional and international level. Romania remains committed to the long-term bilateral cooperation in implementing the programs for building up our defense capabilities, including our defense industry, based on our decision to allocate 2% of GDP for defense expenditures.

We are looking forward to continue enhancing our cooperation with the US with a special focus on energy, transportation and digital infrastructure. A key opportunity will be the Three Seas Initiative Summit this fall. As a host of the Summit, Romania is working thoroughly with all partners and with the United States, to ensure its success.

The past year has also witnessed excellent evolutions in our bilateral trade, with a 18.5% growth in comparison with the previous year.

As Romania joins the United States in the 242nd celebration of its Independence, we also look forward to the anniversary, on the 1st of December, of the Centennial of Romania’s Great Union, an event in which our American allies played a key part.
