MEP Daciana Sarbu, former PM Victor Ponta’s wife, announced that she decided to leave PSD on Monday, continuing her mandate in the European Parliament as an independent MEP, within the S&D Group, suggesting that she will withdraw from politics after this mandate.
“I decided to leave the Social Democrat Party starting on Monday, July 9, 2018, and to continue my mandate in the European Parliament as an independent MEP, within the S&D Group. I will continue fighting for the same causes in which I believed until now – better programs for health, equal opportunities for the Romanian consumers, better opportunities for the Romanian farmers, a cleaner environment for everybody. At the end of this mandate, I will continue to support these projects from outside politics, as well”, Dacian Sarbu wrote on her Facebook Page.
Daciana Sarbu is the daughter of the former PSD leader Ilie Sarbu and Victor Ponta’s wife.
Since 2007, she is a member of the European Parliament, initially as a delegate of the Romanian Parliament, and since 2009 she is a PSD MEP.
