EduMin Popa meets Chinese delegation, highlights excellent bilateral education co-operation

At a meeting with a delegation of the Education Department of China’s Hebei Province, Romania’s Minister of Education Valentin Popa presented the events that Romania will hold during its presidency of the EU Council, mentioning that Romania marks a new level of involvement in the activities of the Asia-Europe Foundation.

According to the Education Ministry, Popa on Wednesday welcomed a Chinese delegation headed by Wang Liqian, deputy director general of the Education Department of the Hebei Province.

”The minister of national education presented the events that Romania will hold during its presidency of the EU Council, insisting that Romania marks a new level of involvement in ASEM / ASEF (Asia-Europe Meeting / Asia-Europe Foundation) : the ASEM process facilitates bi-regional dialogue between Europe and Asia along the principles of mutual respect and equal partnership, whereas the Asia-Europe Foundation is the only permanent institution of the ASEM, in a series of events to be organised by Romanian 2019, namely a students’forum, the ASEF Rectors’ Conference and the 7th Meeting of the ASEM Education Ministers,” the Education Ministry reported on Wednesday.

At the same time, Popa informed the Chinese delegation that Romania has applied for the China – Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) Education Policy Dialogue (also known as 16 + 1), and the Chinese side mentioned the importance of this event for an upward trend in bilateral relations.

At the meeting, the attendees highlighted the excellent level of bilateral education relations, while expressing readiness to identify new opportunities for co-operation.

“It was also discussed that a significant role in educational co-operation is the intensification of mobility, both among students and among teachers, by both sides. In addition to the instruments of traditional bilateral co-operation, the two sides encourage the development of multilateral partnerships offered by China-CEEC co-operation as well as within the Erasmus + European programme.”

The importance of co-operation in areas of common interest between the education institutions of the two countries was emphasised, with the representatives of the two countries reiterating confidence that in future several projects of common interest to the two academic communities could be identified and started.
