US Ambassador Klemm: Closely monitoring evolution of Romanians-Hungarians relations

United States Ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm stated on Monday in Miercurea Ciuc, in reference to the evolution of the relations between the Romanian majority and the Hungarian minority, that this is a closely monitored issue and voiced hope that all minorities are fully respected in Romania.

The US Ambassador to Romania specified, at the end of a meeting with the county prefect, Jean-Adrian Andrei that he is in Transylvania for a week and is visiting several counties, but he specifically wanted to come to Harghita county.

“This is my third visit, I was here two years ago and last winter. I discovered the beauty of the county and of the people, of course. It is great and I come here every chance I get”, Hans Klemm showed, according to Agerpres.

Asked how he comments on the evolution of the relations between Romanians and Hungarians, Klemm replied that this is a closely monitored issue.

It is something we are closely monitoring and I am trying to be optimistic and hope that not only the Hungarian minority but also the other minorities are fully respected in Romania, Hans Klemm told the press.

The US diplomat met on Monday with County Council president Borboly Csaba, the county’s prefect, Jean-Adrian Andrei and with the Chair of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor, the press not being allowed to participate.
