Europe of convergence will be one of the main pillars of the agenda of the forthcoming Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, targeting key objectives such as bridging the economic and social gaps among various EU regions, and employment, Romania’s Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba said Wednesday.
According to a press statement released by the Foreign Ministry (MAE), Ciamba attended the conference “Europe NEXT Project – Cores and Peripheries in Europe” organised by the Aspen Romania Institute of Romania in Brussels on Wednesday.
The Romanian official mentioned the current challenges facing the EU and the Romania’s vision as the forthcoming holder of the Presidency of the EU Council, of a united future of the European construction. He highlighted the need to overcome any divisions and channel joint efforts toward improving the European Union’s efficiency by ensuring unity and cohesion among member states across political, economic and social dimensions.
Ciamba also pointed out that this unity around common values and objectives is the main factor that has allowed the progress of the European construction so far.
“In this regard, he said that one of the main pillars of the agenda of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council will be Europe of convergence, targeting key objectives such as bridging the economic and social gaps among various EU regions, and employment, social rights, promoting innovation and digitisation, as well as strengthening the internal market,” according to MAE.
Ciamba also underlined the importance of the EU’s unitary nature as a source of value and credibility with its external partners.
He reiterated Romania’s interest in supporting efforts to strengthen the role of the EU globally by maintaining a commitment and effective action toward the Western Balkan partners and the Eastern neighbours seeking to progress with their relationship with the European Union.
