The scandal of Dragnea’s dismissal: Liberals announce the political actions to be carried out if the PSD head and Iordache will chair the sessions

National Liberal Party (PNL) spokesman Ionel Danca (photo) stated on Thursday that Liberals will boycott the plenary session until Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache will be dismissed from the leading positions of the Deputies’ Chamber. He announced that PNL will continue the steps to dismiss the two politicians in the Monday’s plenary session.

“We will boycott all the plenary sessions that will be chaired by Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache, because they are committing an abuse right now. This means that the dismissal procedure of the two politicians holding leading positions at the Deputies’ Chamber must be finalized. (…) We will not attend those sessions, that’s boycott. We appreciate that the dismissal procedure of the two politicians from their positions will be finalized until the state budget draft law and the Pensions Law will be discussed and debated”, Ionel Danca stated at the Parliament.

The Liberal said that at this moment, Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache are no longer able to chair the plenary sessions of the Deputies’ Chamber, since they are proposed to be dismissed.

“At this moment, both Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache are subject to two requests to be dismissed from the positions they hold at the leadership of the Deputies’ Chamber, which requests are included on the agenda that was voted yesterday in the session of the Deputies’ Chamber. This procedure must be finalized by a final vote in the next plenary session. As long as these dismissal requests voted yesterday will be on the agenda, both Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache are not able to chair the Deputies’ Chamber sessions. Actually, at this moment, Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache can no longer hold leading positions related to the sessions of the Deputies’ Chamber”, Danca added.

Asked what will happen if PSD will also request for the dismissal of the Liberal Vice Chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber, Ionel Danca said “the regulation will have to be respected”, and “a deadlock will be reached”.

The PNL spokesman also explained why the Wednesday’s plenary session was a legitimate one.

“The session observed the Regulation, because a dismissal request related to the Vice Chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber Florin Iordache was proposed, and he was the one who was ensuring at that moment the chairmanship of the plenary session, and there is an article in the Regulation of the Deputies’ Chamber, which provides that when such a dismissal request exists, the person who is subject to that dismissal request is no longer able to chair the plenary session. Automatically, another Vice Chairperson of the Deputies’ Chamber must take over the chairmanship of the session, which happened. This complies with the letter and spirit of the Regulation of the Deputies’ Chamber. The abuse belonged to Florin Iordache, who simply tied up to the chair and refused to leave the Chairman seat of the Deputies’ Chamber, to release the position in order to be legitimately taken over, namely by the PNL’s Vice Chairperson of the Deputies’ Chamber”, Danca concluded.

The Liberal was also asked about the Regulation of the Deputies’ Chamber, which provides that its Chairman can be dismissed at the request of the leader of the parliamentary group that elected him in this position.

“There are two different situations. One of them is related to the withdrawal of the political support from the parliamentary group that proposed Liviu Dragnea as the Chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber, but this wasn’t invoked yesterday in the session of the Deputies’ Chamber. What the PNL parliamentary group invoked was a breach of the Constitution, which the Chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber committed when he refused to convene an extraordinary session of the Parliament after the protests of August 10. Several months have passed since then. The dismissal proposal of the Chairman of Deputies’ Chamber is at the Standing Bureau since more than one month, and now we decided to act according to the dismissal procedure according to the Regulation. It is not related to the withdrawal of the parliamentary group’s support. For reasons regarding the breach of the Constitution, such a draft resolution complies with the Regulation. I remind you the precedent of 2012, with Roberta Anastase, when the same thing happened”, was Ionel Danca’s answer.

Korodi: Dragnea and Iordache haven’t been dismissed; not even Caragiale could have conceived of such a hilarious situation

The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) is distancing itself from the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Save Romania Union (USR) in the issue of dismissing the leadership of the Deputies’ Chamber. The leader of the Alliance’s deputies, Attila Korodi, stated for RFI that neither Liviu Dragnea nor Florin Iordache have been dismissed from the leadership of the legislative body, as the Opposition claims, since the Regulation wasn’t observed.

Asked if UDMR’s point of view is that Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache have been dismissed, Attila Korodi answered: “No, not at all. It was a tragicomedy. No, because one can be dismissed only by complying with the Regulation. You realize that the session in which the Opposition parties claim that (the leadership of the Deputies’ Chamber – e.n.) was dismissed is a session without a transcript, without anything, with the hands of some deputies raised, and we don’t know how many of them were and what was their situation. We cannot underestimate procedures in such a manner. I think if the Opposition, particularly PNL, is interested in changing the Chamber’s Chairman, and Opposition can be interested in such a thing anytime, it has to change the Regulation, there’s no other way (…). Probably not even Caragiale could have conceived such a hilarious situation”.

The Opposition claims that Liviu Dragnea and Florin Iordache have been dismissed from the leadership of the Deputies’ Chamber, while the representatives of the power say that this didn’t happen, since the Chamber’s Regulation wasn’t observed.
