In the century of digital technologies and alte rnative resources, development of innovations is the priority of every modern state. Kazakhstan, still perceived by some as a fragment of the former Soviet Union, may be highlighted among the new markets, oriented on innovation and technological entrepreneurship.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is a dynamically developed state with its own space program, virtually total population literacy (99,8%) and a 31st place in the global education index. According to «Doing Business» ratings, Kazakhstan ranks 28th among 190 countries.
The young capital of Kazakhstan – Astana – has become an embodiment of courage and foresight of the Kazakh leadership. During the last 20 years, Astana has become an epicenter of global integration and peacekeeping. In 2010, in Astana was held the most recent OSCE Summit, which attracted attention of the whole world. Holding the International Exhibition EXPO-2017 demonstrated Kazakhstan’s high-level progress in the field of renewable energy and green economy. The Exhibition had a tremendous impact and provided an impulse to a further development of the country’s economy.
Continuing the progressive development in all spheres of life, a digital program was adopted in Kazakhstan, envisioning qualitative changes in the country’s economy – from agriculture to heavy industry. In the coming years there will be created infrastructure for providing remote villages with broadband Internet, and by 2020 90% of public services will be provided online.
Aspiring to take a worthy place at the forefront of the high-tech countries and being aware of the necessity to build an innovative ecosystem, on November 6, 2018, Kazakhstan officially presented the new international technology park of IT-startups, the Astana Hub.
The Hub offers all necessary conditions for uninhibited development of Kazakhstan and foreign technology companies.
Global mission of the technology park is to become the center of gravity for a critical mass of young and talented IT-specialists from around the world. All Astana Hub tools are aimed at developing and supporting technology start-ups, as well as improving the entrepreneurship culture.
How does it work?
Astana Hub has 2 start-up development programs: acceleration and incubation.
The acceleration program of Astana Hub is a speed development process for start-ups at an early stage of their life. Projects that meet selection requirements are provided with tools to boost their business performance: mentoring from successful entrepreneurs, tracking, trainings and consultations, networking with best market teams, free office space and PR-promotion in mass-media.
Incubation is a more generalized comprehensive program, where Astana Hub accepts start-ups from the idea stage. In the framework of the incubation program participants have access to unified coworking, access to a knowledge base, expert advices, assistance in attracting investments and promotion in mass-media.
Besides programs for start-up developing based on the technology park, there are functioning prototyping laboratories and R&D centers of domestic and foreign IT-companies. This allows residents of the Astana Hub to elaborate prototypes and engage in scientific researches.
Technology park participants will be able to enjoy simplified visa and labor regimes. Tax and other facilities are provided, with exemption from corporate income tax, VAT, individual income tax, as well as social taxes for non-residents.
In addition, in order for projects to receive decent funding, a business-angels club, an association of venture capitalists and a co-investment fund have been created.
Currently, 156 projects and 510 participants of the acceleration and incubation programs receive support at the technology park.
There is no doubt that Astana Hub will lay the foundation for innovative development not only in Kazakhstan, but the whole Eurasian region. The doors of Astana Hub are open for participants from all over the world and daring breakthrough ideas.
