PM Dancila: Final form of rotating Presidency of EU Council program to be presented on December 12 in Parliament

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced that  she will present in Parliament on Tuesday the final form of the rotating Presidency program of the EU Council, which Romania will take over as of January 1st 2019.

“After the reunion with the presidents’ conference in Bucharest, this week I had a meeting with the Commissioners’ College, and we talked about our priorities during our rotating Presidency, but also about the way in which we will cooperate with the European institutions. Many ministers had meetings with European commissioners, with committee presidents from the European Parliament, but also with the rapporteurs. I would like to congratulate the ministers who took over the wheel in order to coordinate the activities within the EU Council. (…) The Government will continue preparations in the established terms, with the same seriousness and professionalism. Together with the Government members we will continue discussions regarding the Presidency’s takeover, but also exercising it, and on the 12th I will present in the Romanian Parliament the final form of the rotating Presidency Romania will take over as of January 1st 2019,” the Prime Minister declared last Friday.

Viorica Dancila saluted in the same context the fact that the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker reiterated the fact that “Romania will become part of the Schengen Space before the end of the current term of the European Commission.”

“From a technical point of view, we know that our country meets all the criteria and I believe that this is an act of justice, an act of normality, an act through which Romania is treated just as the other member states of the European Union,” the prime minister added.
