Gabriel Oprea returns to politics, re-elected as the UNPR Chairman

Former Vice Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea was re-elected, at the Extraordinary National Conference of the party held on Wednesday, as the National Union for Romania’s progress (UNPR) Chairman, according to a press release issued by the party.

On this occasion, Gabriel Oprea thanked to his party fellows and on Wednesday sent the Facebook message “UNPR goes ahead!”.

Also at this event, UNPR leadership was elected, according to a party’s press release.

“The National Union for the Progress of Romania met on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, under an Extraordinary National Conference. On the agenda of the Conference, there were the Activity Report of the Chairman and of the BPPN for the period 04.04.2017-30.11.2018, the UNPR Statute, the election of the party’s Chairman, as well as of the Executive Chairman, of the General Secretary, of the Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of the National Council. At the National Conference, the party’s strategy for the EP elections was debated and approved”, states the quoted source.

Ion Raducanu was elected as the Executive Chairman, while Nutu Fonta was reconfirmed as the General Secretary.

At the same time, UNPR has elected the Chairpersons of the party’s departments.

“Today, UNPR has 26 mayors, 76 vice mayors, 16 county councilors, 1 general councilor, 15 councilors in the Bucharest districts, and 1203 local councilors in the territory. The elected UNPR Chairman Gabriel Oprea sent a message of unity to those who were present and underlined the main objectives of the party for the coming period, starting with the participation in the EP elections and with reaching all the planned targets”, reads the press release.

“In the summer of 2015, I reached the highest level of trust, 32%, and UNPR, the party that I founded, had 10% in polls. This political impetus bothered, and all of us know what was next. Political cases were built against me, to remove me and UNPR. But truth always wins. We are strong, we are united, and we go ahead with confidence. EP elections are coming, we will support the best candidate for the Romanian President, we are preparing for the local elections and for entering the Parliament. We are ready to go alone in elections, but the party is also involved in political negotiations on the left and center-left area, to come with the best formula. Romania needs unity, solidarity, it needs a state that respects and supports its citizens, it needs political and economic stability. Especially in this period, when the political context is unstable, and the Romanian society is divided, UNPR represents the path of balance and responsibility”, the UNPR Chairman Gabriel Oprea stated, according to the quoted source.
