PG Lazar talks to CCPE President Peter McCormick about prosecutors’ independence

Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar discussed with President of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) Peter McCormick about the prosecutors’ independence, the Prosecutors’ Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice informed on Tuesday.

According to a release, Augustin Lazar had an working meeting on Monday at the Prosecutors’ Office headquarters, with Peter McCormick – the President of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE).

The meeting had as prosecutor’s independence as the core topic for debate,” says the release.

Moreover, the same source informs that also debated were topics related to the observance and implementation of the opinions adopted by the CCPE and validated through resolutions by the European Council, the need to implement some professional training programmes in the judiciary systems of member states regarding the concepts of the CCPE opinions, as well as the current issues of prosecutors that are likely to affect their activity and what might be the internal and international mechanisms to avoid such blockages.
