Decathlon launches its latest project, Sports Experiences. The French retailer is planning to make the percentage of the population practicing sports increase to 60%

Starting with January 7, Decathlon will launch a new online platform and a new loyalty awarding program. The customers of the French retailer who own a loyalty card will be able to use a network of national partners, as well as customized offers in the places where they choose to practice sports. Everything is part of the new Decathlon strategy aiming at motivating and supporting people to practice their favorite sport, but also to discover new sports, thus developing a healthy lifestyle.

“We truly believe in our mission, to make sports accessible to as many people as possible. Accessibility means to be wherever it is needed, whenever it is needed, providing the customer with everything he needs. According to the Eurobarometer results on sports and physical activity, we know that today, 37% of the Romania’s population practices sports. We want to increase this number to 60% in the next 5 years, facilitating this relation: user – appropriate sports equipment – a place for practicing”, stated Lacramioara Rosca, Marketing Manager of Decathlon Romania.

The new loyalty program continues to turn each transaction into loyalty points. These loyalty points have a validity of 12 months since the last transaction was registered in the Decathlon account, and they can be used to partially or fully pay services at different sports partners, which are present almost in all the cities of the country, and for different sports typologies. According to the information provided by the company’s representatives, the network of sports partners is constantly developing. “Our target is to cover the over 80 sports that are available at Decathlon today”, stated Lacramioara Rosca at a press conference. The new online platform is based on marks and opinions provided by those who have already experienced the location/experience, thus ensuring a quality selection for each sport and in each city. Those who have a Decathlon loyalty card will continue to benefit from the product warranty, without needing the receipt.

The eligible persons who can get a card may obtain it if they are 18 or older and request for the card to be issued in a Decathlon store or online, on the website decathlon.ro, in the “My Account” section.

At national level, Decathlon gathers today more than 1300 collaborators, in a network of 23 stores, to which the online platform is added. In the last 2 years, the sports retailer opened four new stores – in Botosani, Buzau, Piatra Neamt, and the 5th store in Bucharest – Decathlon Obor. In 2017, the first Decathlon logistics center was inaugurated in Romania, supplying three Southeast European countries – Romania, Bulgaria and Greece.

Decathlon provides sports lovers with sports articles and equipment, including articles Made in Romania, such as bicycles, footwear designed for mountain hiking, and textiles for cycling and team sports.
