President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday said he will attend the government sittings, after finding a “wish to collaborate” on the part of Prime minister Viorica Dancila.
“I asked for [the Gov’t sitting’s, ed. n.] agenda. I believe we must see things a bit into perspective. We are preparing ourselves for the presidency [of the Council of the European Union, ed. n.] and even if ready, things are not going to be simple at all. On the other hand, I have found on the part of Mrs. Prime minister a wish to collaborate, so to speak, she invited me to collaborate several times. Here I am, ready to collaborate. I’m going to attend the Government sittings,” Klaus Iohannis said in Vienna, where he is attending the High-Level Forum Africa-Europe.
“High-treason complaint by PSD, petty political demarche, PSD fantasy”
He stated that filing a criminal complaint against him for high treason, demanded by Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea, is “a petty political demarche,” “a fantasy of the PSD, which has no support”.
“It is a petty political demarche which, in the first place, is doomed to fail. No one can file a criminal complaint against the president, and for high treason there is a very complicated, parliamentary procedure, which, in the first place, has no support. It is a fantasy of the PSD members,” Klaus Iohannis said in Vienna on Tuesday, where he is attending the High-Level Forum Africa-Europe.
On Sunday, PSD leader Liviu Dragnea asked the Social Democrats to file a criminal complaint for high treason against President Klaus Iohannis.
“Iohannis, who betrays Romania’s interests, has been saying for a very long time that the Romanian Government, Romania are not ready to take over the presidency of the EU Council. This is an act of national treason, of the national interests of this country practiced by Klaus Werner Iohannis. (…) Please, after New Year’s Eve, file that complaint of high treason against Klaus Werner Iohannis,” Dragnea said at the meeting of the National Council of PSD.
“Amnesty and pardon Gov’t ordinance, very serious error for Romania”
A possible Gov’t ordinance on amnesty and pardon would be a very serious error for Romania, on Tuesday reiterated president Klaus Iohannis.
“It would be a serious error. Such an ordinance on amnesty and pardon would be a very serious error for Romania,” the president said when quizzed on what he could do if such an ordinance occurred on the additional agenda of the government as it happened before with the Government Emergency Ordinance (OUG) No 13.
Furthermore, asked whether he is considering a referendum on the laws of justice, President Klaus Iohannis answered: “We will certainly talk again about that referendum.”
“We’re ready, we’ll demonstrate we can exercise good presidency of EU Council”
Romania is ready to exercise the presidency of the Council of the European Union, President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday in Vienna.
“We are ready and we will demonstrate that we can exercise a good presidency of the EU Council,” President Iohannis said, at the High-Level Forum Africa-Europe.
“This forum is extremely important and occurs just in time, when the Austrian presidency of the EU Council comes to an end, basically we are already entering the Romanian presidency of the EU Council. The relationship between Europe and Africa is a growing relationship and we’d like to turn it from a relation where Europe has offered help for development into a relation between equal partners, willing to collaborate, willing to progress together,” President Iohannis added.
