Delegation of Romania’s International Development Cooperation Agency visits UN

Catalin Harnagea (photo L), director general of Romania’s International Development Cooperation Agency (RoAid), paid a visit to the United Nations – New York, between 17 and 21 December 2018.

He had meetings with  Natalia Kanem, Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA),  Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs,  Mirjana Spoljaric-Egger, Assistant Administrator and Director of the regional Bureau for Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Romanian delegation had also a meeting with  Ramesh Rajasingham, director of the Coordination Division of the United Nations Office for the Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and participated at the aria formula meeting on “Protecting Health Care in Armed Conflict – from Policy to practice”.

The bilateral talks stressed Romania’s very good cooperation with the United Nations Agencies and Programs. The UN officials welcomed Romania’s contribution to the United Nations activity, including in the field of the international development cooperation. There have been exemplified projects co-financed by Romania and implemented through the UN agencies and funds, as well as the opportunities to multiply and develop this cooperation in countries and sectors of interest of common interest.

“Romania is a donor since 2007, with projects implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the support of UNDP. In 2016, Romania established its International Development Cooperation Agency – RoAid, which has been fully operationalized in November 2017. RoAid’s mandate aims to implement projects and programs in the field of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid, contributing to the strengthening of our country profile within the UN and bilaterally,’ a press release issued on Friday by the Permanent Mission of Romanian to the United Nations informs.
