Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Friday that President Klaus Iohannis communicated to her, without any explanation, that he would not endorse the two proposals of ministers for transport and regional development respectively, with her saying this shows that the head of state actually wants to block the Government’s activity.
“The President has confirmed today, once again, the fact that he cannot exercise his constitutional role as a mediator. The president’s each public opinion has strong political accents, the only concern being to attack the Social Democratic Party. As I announced yesterday, I asked President Iohannis for a discussion on the appointment of the two Ministers of Transport and Regional Development. It was only natural to have a decision in this sense as soon as the Constitutional Court has shown that we must have this decision immediately. The President informed me that he will not endorse to the two proposals I have submitted to him, without any explanation, proving that he really wants to block the Government’s activity,” Dancila said at the beginning of the Government meeting.
She underlined that Romania will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union with a blockage situation at two important ministries.
Gov’t not in full formula, yet determined to cover presidency of EU Council
The government has the determination and boldness to cover the rotating presidency of the European Union’s Council, said on Friday Prime minister Viorica Dancila, although the Executive is not in its full formula, adding that her appeal to consensus is not accepted by all.
“A few days are separating us from the taking over by Romania of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. It’s an important period for us, to prove that Romania can administrate successfully the rotating presidency of the EU. In the mandate Romania will hold, we must answer significant challenges at European level, and I’m talking about Brexit, about the future of the post-Brexit EU, the traditional policies, the Common Agricultural Policy, the Cohesion Policy, the migration matters, the asylum policy, terrorism, other matters on the European agenda. The ministries have already taken over their tenure, they have on their work table in Bucharest the important files of the European agenda, and we all wish to be able to have a successful presidency,” Dancila said at the beginning of the Gov’t sitting.
She asserted that the Gov’t will try to answer any hurdle even if it has not the necessary support.
“Although as I said before we face difficulties because we don’t have the Gov’t in its full formula, with all of its ministers, those designated by the PSD ALDE coalition, those backed by the Romanian prime minister, we will try to answer each hurdle and even if we don’t have the necessary support to do it, we have the determination and the boldness to cover a mandate for both the Romanians and for Romania,” the premier stressed.
Viorica Dancila added that she made an appeal to a consensus, underlining that the Gov’t will do whatever it takes to accomplish its targets.
