PM Dancila, ministers on working visit in Strasbourg, to present EU Council Romanian Presidency’s priorities

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and members of the Government are carrying out a working visit to the European Parliament, in Strasbourg on Monday and Tuesday to present Romania’s priorities for the six-month term of the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On Monday afternoon, Minister of European Funds Rovana Plumb met with Andrey Novakov, Coordinator of the Regional Development Committee of the European Parliament (REGI). In his turn, Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba met  with Vice-President of the European Parliament Sylvie Guillaume (photo), as well as with the President of the Conference of Committee Chairs, Cecilia Wikstrom .

In the evening, the  government delegation chaired by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila attended the official dinner offered by the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will be present in the plenary session of the European Parliament; her Cabinet members have other bilateral meetings with European officials scheduled.

Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba will have a meeting with AFCO Chairman Danuta Hubner and Minister of Public Finance Eugen Teodorovich will meet with Pervenche Beres and Othmar Karas – EP co-rapporteurs.

Minister of Labor and Social Justice Marius Budai has a meeting scheduled with S & D Group Vice-President Maria Joao Rodrigues, Minister of European Funds Rovana Plumb with S & D REGI coordinator Constanze Krehl, and Minister of Internal Affairs Carmen Dan will have a meeting with the Chairman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the EP, Claude Moraes.

Later on, Minister Rovana Plumb will have talks with Iskra Mihaylova, Chair of the EP’s Regional Development Committee , while Minister Carmen Dan will meet with the President of the Conference of Commission Chairs, Cecilia Wikstrom, and Minister Eugen Teodorovici with Pervenche Beres, co-rapporteur of the European Supervisory Authorities. On Tuesday morning there is also  scheduled the meeting of Labor Minister Marius Budai with the rapporteur for co-ordination of social security systems, Guillaume Balas.

The government delegation headed by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will arrive at the European Parliament headquarters at 14.30 hrs. The address of the Romanian Prime Minister in the EP plenary session is scheduled for 15:00 hrs, following a meeting of our country’s delegation with the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

Viorica Dancila and Antonio Tajani will hold joint press statements at 17:00 hrs, according to the schedule announced by the Government.

Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu will meet with Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister at 17:00 hrs and at 17:45 hrs Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba is meeting with EP Vice-President Mairead McGuinness.

From 18:00 hrs, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will make a presentation of the priorities of the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union at the S & D Group meeting.

At the end of the day, the government delegation, together with senior European officials, will participate in the opening of the photo exhibition “Traditions and Landscapes in Romania”, organized on the occasion of the debut of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council.
