On Friday, the Romanian Embassy in the French Republic organized a meeting of the EU Member States’ ambassadors accredited in Paris, and the special guest was the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian. Topics of the European and international agenda have been discussed at the meeting, with a focus on the priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council.
In the opening of the meeting, Ambassador Luca Niculescu presented Romania’s priorities, emphasizing the four pillars: “Europe of convergence”, “Europe of safety”, “Europe, global actor” and “Europe of shared values”. Ambassador Luca Niculescu stressed that in the next six months, Romania will place cohesion in the center of the European project, for a more united, more convergent and more solidary Europe.
Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian reiterated France’s support for the success of Romania’s mandate at the Presidency of the Council of European Union. Speaking about the four priority axes which the Romanian Presidency aims to promote, the French dignitary stated that France shares Romania’s aspirations for a Europe of cohesion. The security issue existing in the Middle East, the Europe of defense, the future EP elections, Brexit or the future Multiannual Financial Framework are some of the topics approached on this occasion. The French Minister underlined the importance of the Sibiu Summit to be held on May 9, 2019, for the future of the European Union, on which occasion the European leaders will draw the directions of the 2019-2024 Strategic Agenda.
The event marked the opening of the series of thematic meetings to be held by the Romanian Embassy to Paris during the next six months with the ambassadors of the European diplomatic missions in the French capital city, to which a number of French dignitaries will be invited.
