On Tuesday, MEP Cristian Preda announced on Facebook that he joined PLUS at Dacian Ciolos’ invitation, mentioning that he will support the party’s candidates for the EP elections, but he will not run in the elections.
“At Dacian Ciolos’ invitation, I have joined PLUS. As I announced four months ago, I will not run in the EP elections. I will support the PLUS candidates in the elections of May 26, and I invite all those who trust me to do the same. Through my affiliation, PLUS gains a statute of a parliamentary party and consequently will have delegates in all the polling stations, and thus will be able to secure the options expressed in favor of its list. After the EP elections, using the accrued European, I will act inside PLUS in order for the institutions resulting from the future elections – the presidency, the local authorities, the new parliamentary majority – to work in the general interest, not in their own interest”, Cristian Preda wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Cristian Preda was a PDL member.
In the EP elections of May 2014, he obtained a seat by running on the lists of the People’s Movement Party (PMP). This December, PMP unanimously decided to exclude him from the party. The party’s members accused Preda that his only purpose was to get a MEP seat and his actions brought image damages to PMP.
