Orban, Ciolos reiterate support for Laura Codruta Kovesi’s candidacy for chief-prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office

Orban: PNL MEPs to support Kovesi’s candidacy for chief-prosecutor of European Public Prosecutor’s Office

Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban on Monday announced that the Liberal MEPs are empowered by the Executive Bureau of the party to support Laura Codruta Kovesi’s candidacy for chief-prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“The Executive Bureau of the PNL decided to empower the PNL representatives to the European Parliament to support Mrs Laura Codruta Kovesi’s candidacy for chief-prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, a Romanian prosecutor with high chances of winning the race to hold this very important office at European level. Basically, our MEPs are empowered to make lobby at the European Parliament level, first of all at the EPP group level, and also to try to convince the MEPs from the other groups, who could be determined to support the candidacy of Mrs Codruta Kovesi. Moreover, our lobby will also target all the representatives from the EPP and European institutions who are part of this decision-making process,” stated Orban, after the meeting of the PNL leadership.

Ciolos: I assume without any reservations the total support for Laura Codruta Kovesi for the position of the Chief-Prosecutor of the European Prosecutor’s Office

Former PM Dacian Ciolos announces he assumes without any reservations the total support for Laura Codruta Kovesi for the position of the Chief-Prosecutor of the European Prosecutor’s Office and will do his best to help this candidacy.

“I assume without any reservations the total support for Laura Codruta Kovesi for the position of the Chief-Prosecutor of the European Prosecutor’s Office. I will do my best to help and support this candidacy. In the last 30 years, the current political class has driven away the Romanians who wished to make something for Romania. It prevented those who wanted to get involved and built a political elite consisting of criminals and people deprived of honesty. Enough! It’s time to refuse the long series of humiliations and do something concrete for the future of our country”, Ciolos wrote on his Facebook page.

Laura Codruta Kovesi ranked the first in the selection for the position of the European Chief-Prosecutor made by a special Committee; the first three proposals were sent to the European Parliament in the order of the preferences, of which the legislative body is going to select the European Chief-Prosecutor.
