Thousands protest in Victory Square and in major cities against the emergency ordinance amending the laws of justice.

Several thousand people have gathered on Sunday evening in Victoriei Square in Bucharest to protest against the emergency ordinance amending the laws of justice. Protesters chant “Thieves!”, “Justice, not corruption!”, “Resignation”, “PSD, red plague”.

On one of the buildings around Victoria Square was screened the message: “This is our country, it is not your estate”

Road traffic was closed on Kiseleff Road and Aviatorilor Boulevard on one sense.

PLUS leader Dacian Ciolos and Save Romania Union (USR) chairman Dan Barna are among the demonstrators in Bucharest.

Thousands of people are also protesting in major cities in the country, including Cluj, Sibiu, Timisoara, Iasi, Bacau, Constanta, Brasov.

 

The Gendarmerie of Bucharest, about the protest in Victoriei Square: For the organization of this demonstration, the conditions of the law in force on the public assemblies were not observed

 

Bucharest Gendarmerie stated that for the organization of the demonstration in Victoriei Square the conditions of the law in force on the public meetings were not observed.

“For the organization of this demonstration the conditions of the law of the public assemblies in force were not observed, being announced on the social networks, in the online environment and in the media. The Gendarmerie will ensure public order and peace and will take all necessary measures in order to prevent incidents that might disrupt public order during this demonstration. We will make every effort to ensure that the natural activity of public institutions, the use of roads and other day-to-day activities are not affected or the effect is limited “, the Gendarmerie said.

The Gendarmerie adds  that more information and false news were circulated in the public space about the number of gendarmes engaged in this mission, in order to create emotion and increase the tension among those interested in participating in this demonstration.

“We once again criticize these news! We recommend that participants follow the indications and recommendations of the law enforcement officers, and in order for avoiding negative events, the manner  of manifestation must remain peaceful and without breaking the legal norms! “, says the Gendarmerie.
