Actress Ileana Stana Ionescu will receive the Life Achievement Gopo Award

Actress Ileana Stana Ionescu will be honored with the Life Achievement Award at the 13th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 19, starting at 8.00 PM, at the National Theater of Bucharest, and will be broadcasted live on Film Now, online on premiilegopo.ro and recorded by Digi 24.

With a career covering more than 60 years, actress Ileana Stana Ionescu delighted the Romanian audience by interpreting hundreds of movie and theater characters. Born in Brad, Hunedoara County, on September 14, 1936 Ileana Stana Ionescu debuted as an actress at the age of 19, at the State Theater from Resita, with the role of Agnes in Molière’s “The School for Wives”. In 1959, she moved to the Youth Theater from Piatra Neamt, where she was remarked, several years later, by Radu Beligan, and invited to compete for a position at the National Theater of Bucharest. Her debut on the stage of the National Theater took place in 1965, when her partner was Florin Piersic in “The Idiot”. Throughout the years, Ileana Stana Ionescu was remarked through roles such as Ana Petrovna from “Cehov Machinery”, Chiriachita from “Titanic Vals”, Chiralina from “Coana Chirita”, Fraulein from “Gaitele”, or Constance from “The Mad Woman of Chaillot”. IN 2002, she became honorary associate of the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theater of Bucharest.

Throughout her artistic career, she received many awards and distinctions: The National Theater’s Award for Artistic Work (1976), the Life Achievement Special Award of the Jury (1985), The Excellence Award of the UNITER Gala, the “Dionysos” Trophy for her role in “O batista in Dunare” directed by Ion Cojar (1988), the UARF Golden Plate for special merits in developing cinematographic art and culture (2001).

In the field of the cinema and television industry, some of her most important appearances are: „Un film cu o fata fermecatoare” (directed by Lucian Bratu, 1966), „Pacala” (directed by Geo Saizescu, 1974), „Eu, tu si Ovidiu” (directed by Geo Saizescu, 1977), „Dumbrava minunata” (directed by Gheorghe Naghi,1980), „Alo, aterizeaza strabunica!” (directed by Nicolae Corjos, 1981), „Secretul lui Bachus” (directed by Geo Saizescu, 1984), „Secretul lui Nemesis” (directed by Geo Saizescu, 1985), „Cuibul de viespi” (directed by Horea Popescu, 1987), „Cucoana Chirita” (directed by Horea Popescu, 1986), „Aici nu mai locuieste nimeni” (directed by Malvina Ursianu, 1995), „Milionari de week-end” (directed by Catalin Saizescu, 2004), „Pacala se intoarce” (directed by Geo Saizescu, 2006), „Lombarzilor 8” (2006) directed by „Las Fierbinti” (2012).

One of the most important Gopo trophies, the Life Achievement Award, is granted by Apa Nova Bucuresti. In the previous editions, this award was granted to emblematic actors of the Romanian film industry: Marin Moraru, Draga Olteanu-Matei, Ion Besoiu, Iurie Darie, Mitica Popescu, Radu Beligan, Coca Bloos, Constantin Draganescu, George Mihaita and Vladimir Gaitan.
