Opposition gets united against PSD. The USR-PLUS Alliance announces negotiations with PNL

The Chairman of the Save Romania Union (USR) Dan Barna, stated on Saturday that the 2020 USR PLUS Alliance will continue to exist after the EP elections, aiming at taking over the government in 2020, and will have its own candidates in the local elections, in municipalities and cities. He added that in Bucharest, a collaboration with PNL is possible, in order to “take” the Capital city out of Gabriela Firea’s “reign”.

Asked, at a press conference, about the collaboration with PNL, given that this collaboration doesn’t exist in Arad, and the USR county branch is in opposition with the PNL administration, Barna answered that the local branches are autonomous in terms of collaborating with other parties, but collaborating with PNL in the local elections is an option for the Bucharest Municipality.

“It’s possible that a collaboration (with PNL – e.n.) will be necessary in Bucharest, to be able to take Bucharest out of Mrs. Firea’s reign, but there are a lot of municipalities and cities in Romania, including Arad, Timisoara, Brasov, where we will have candidates, independently from PNL’s position (…) There is a quite solid principle in USR, the one of the autonomy of the local branches. Of course, every decision will be made after discussing with each branch, there will not be a national strategy, excepting this alliance (USR PLUS – e.n.), which is planning to continue to exist after these EP elections, too”, Barna stated.

Regarding the general elections of the next year, the USR Chairman said that the Alliance 2020 is planning to take over the government.

“Since we announced this electoral alliance, USR PLUS, me and Dacian Ciolos said very clearly that the objective of the Alliance 2020 is given by the 2020 elections, the parliamentary elections, after which we are sure that the USR PLUS Alliance will govern Romania”, Dan Barna said.

Asked about a possible merger between USR and PLUS, Barna stated that “for now, the main objective is given by the EP elections”.

“After the result of these EP elections, we’ll see, depending on the trust that Romania will have in this alternative we propose, we will see what are the next steps”, the USR leader added.
