The Social Democrat senators will vote the simple motion on justice “exactly how their conscience dictates,” the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Liviu Dragnea stated on Wednesday.
“For me, Tudorel Toader is not an important character which to talk about every day. (…) it got postponed [the simple motion] because the majority of the PSD senators were gone or had businesses in the territory and, also, Mr Calin Popescu-Tariceanu is not in the country. Next week, there is sufficient time [for the motion] to be debated and voted. They [PSD senators] will vote exactly how their Social Democrat conscience dictates. (…) We will discuss it then,” Dragnea stated in Giurgiu County.
Asked for his comments on the fact that Tudorel Toader is a minister endorsed by the PSD, Liviu Dragnea replied: “He’s not mine, he’s not related to me, he’s not my brother, nor the brother of my mother or father, he’s not my cousin, the PSD endorsed him; I don’t know how long the party will keep endorsing him, it seems the PSD no longer endorses him.”
Toader: That statement is a bit severe, and I cannot take the liberty to give a matching response
Justice Minister Tudorel Toader stated on Wednesday, after PSD leader Liviu Dragnea accused him of “tricking” the party by stating he wants to adopt the ordinances on the judicial laws, that “that statement is a bit severe” and he does not take the liberty to give a matching response.
“That statement is a bit severe, and I cannot take the liberty to give a matching response,” the Justice Minister said when asked for his comments on Dragnea’s accusations.
PSD leader Liviu Dragnea stated on Monday that the entire party allowed itself to be “tricked” by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, who announced back in January that he wants to adopt the emergency ordinances on the judicial laws but now has said that the urgency is no longer justified.
“I said I no longer want to discuss this, because we allowed ourselves to be tricked, the whole party. I believe Mr Toader tricked us; I don’t know whether on his own or with someone else… I don’t know yet. He did it intentionally, [or] unintentionally… You go out in January and say: ‘I want to adopt this and that ordinance.’ I was away at the time, I heard about it, he didn’t talk with anyone. But you can’t go out at the start of the year and say you will adopt an ordinance, causing a huge scandal, we are under fire from the country and from abroad too, and then at one point you say ‘well, I can no longer adopt [it] because the urgency is not justified.’ So, a pointless scandal has been generated, the debate in Parliament has been blocked, and many people are saying: ‘but, after all, wasn’t this the plan?’”, Dragnea stated for RomaniaTV.
JusMin: I will have ready-made answers to every question in motion against me
Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said on Wednesday he prepared an answer to every single question in the opposition motion against him.
“Can you picture me showing up unprepared? The motion will be read out by its sponsors, after which I, the object to which the motion refers, come up with ready-made answers to each and all question. I was prepared to speak for an hour or two about each point in the censure motion, to provide answers. (…) I thought about the worst,” Toader said at the Parliament House.
The simple motion “Justice, a sure victim in the hands of Toader,” sponsored by the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Save Romania Union (USR), to be debated by the Senate, was postponed on Wednesday for the second time because of the lack of a quorum.
Toader was present and waited for the senators for about 15 minutes.
Also, a meeting on Wednesday of the Senate’s Standing Bureau did not take place again for the lack of a quorum, as on Monday.
