Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Liviu Dragnea stated on Friday at Craiova, referring to a possible candidacy to the presidential election, that if he will have the physical possibility, he will think about it.
“If I will have the physical possibility, we’ll think about it. Now I have it. Now I’m free, I’m with you”, Liviu Dragnea stated, asked if he will run for president.
A few days ago, asked in a TV show at Romania TV when will he announce his presidential candidacy, Dragnea replied: “Do you think they’ll let me free to run?”.
Tariceanu: I wish Dragnea to stay free. After the European election we will resume the subject of the presidential candidate
On the other hand, the Chairman of the Liberal Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), Calin Popescu Tariceanu, asked on Saturday at Iasi, at a press conference, what will ALDE do if PSD decides to have its own candidate in the presidential election, Calin Popescu Tariceanu said these things will be discussed after the voting of May 26, adding that we are currently “on the ground of suppositions”.
The ALDE Chairman also said that he wishes Dragnea be a free man, motivating that “there’s no civilized European country in which someone who deals with the elections and mobilizes the voters in elections isn’t sentenced for this”.
“Both I and he said we have discussed together on the future candidacy from the Coalition and decided that we will resume the subject after the European Parliament election, to decide how we will act”, Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated.
Two days before, Tariceanu said he is ready to take the presidential candidacy, adding that a decision will be made in the governing coalition after the EP election and after an analysis of the opinion polls.
“The presidential candidacy will be officially announced, but I’m not necessarily speaking in my own name. We have discussed this subject within the Coalition, I am ready to take this candidacy, as we will see who the best placed candidate in the race for the chair at Cotroceni is. Most probably, we will do this after the European Parliament election”, Tariceanu stated.
The ALDE leader also said at Iasi that the target of his party is to get five seats in the European Parliament.
Calin Popescu Tariceanu, accompanied by other members of the party’s leadership, attended on Saturday, in Iasi, the regional conference for the presentation of the ALDE candidates to the EP election.
The event was attended by more than 600 ALDE members from the counties of Iasi, Botosani, Suceava and Vaslui.
When he arrived in front of the National Theater of Iasi, where the ALDE meeting was held, Tariceanu was booed by a few people who cried “You Liar”, “You Traitor”, “You Thief”, “You are a criminal. You and Dragnea should be jailed”.
