Inaugural ceremony of the China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture

The inauguration of the China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture, jointly established by the Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Bucharest University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, took place on Thursday.

The Chinese Ambassador in Romania, Mrs. Jiang Yu, the Romanian Minister of Research and Innovation, Nicolae Hurduc, the Rector of the Bucharest University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Sorin Cimpeanu, and the General Director of the Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Zhang Yanqing, attended the ceremony and held speeches. The event was also attended by the Counselor for Science and Technology of the Chinese Embassy in Romania, Zhang Jian.

Ambassador Jiang Yu stated in her speech that even if China and Romania are thousands of kilometers away one from each other, they have always been good friends and partners. The relations between the two countries continued to develop, the bilateral economic cooperation was increasing and the bidirectional interhuman exchanges continued to deepen. Both parties have always mutually supported each other and had a consistent collaboration. Ambassador Jiang pointed out that two celebrations coincide this year, namely the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Romania, and the 15th anniversary since the Ample Friendship and Cooperation Partnership between China and Romania was established; she stressed that she is eager to see, during this year, more and more platforms of pragmatic cooperation, such as the China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture, to celebrate “the double anniversary” even with a higher greatness.

The head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Romania stressed that cooperation in science, technology and innovation is an important component of the bilateral relations, and cooperation in agriculture is the most interesting part of the bilateral cooperation in science, technology and innovation. The agricultural research institutions of the two countries, represented by the Bucharest University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, have a tight connection for dozens of years. The cooperation between these institutions recorded significant achievements in genetic reproduction and molecular culture, integrated pest management, agricultural product quality and food safety, rural economy, information technology development and implementation in agriculture.

Ambassador Jiang suggested the constructors of the Science and Technology Park for Agriculture to face the frontiers of the disciplines and the needs of development, based on the existing cooperation foundation and the corresponding technology and industrial advantages, to select complementary fields, to strengthen the coordination of the scientific research in approaching key issues and to reach early, through a practical cooperation, outcomes that will bring benefits to the agricultural producers of the two countries. The two parties are expected to work together to establish the China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture as a bilateral agricultural center of science, technology and innovation, exchange of information and gathering and training the talents in the field.

Minister Hurduc pointed out that Romania was one of the first countries that recognized the P.R. of China and signed an intergovernmental agreement on science and technology cooperation with China. The relation with China is very important to Romania, and Romania is willing to be China’s firm partner in Europe. Being promoted by the Commission for Science and Technology Collaboration between China and Romania, the agreement on science and technology cooperation between the two Governments has kept pace with the times and was regularly renewed, an increasing number of scientific and technological cooperation projects have been funded by the Governments of the two parties, and cooperation has continuously recorded new achievements. The China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture is a demonstrative project and a testimony of the smooth scientific and technological cooperation between China and Romania, as well as an important platform for deepening cooperation for both parties. The park is expected to contribute in increasing the efficiency of the scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The China-Romania Science and Technology Park for Agriculture is a project supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, being an important measure for implementing the Action Plan on Science, Technology and Innovation under the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the Partnership Plan on Science, Technology and Innovation between Chine and the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe. The Park is expected to promote the transfer and transformation of the mature agricultural technology of China to the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, through technology demonstrations, as well as to increase the innovation capacity and the industrialization degree in the protected agriculture field in the Central and Eastern Europe, leading to a cooperation that is beneficial to all the participants.
